The friendly, which will be the Whites’ first match of this preseason, will be played at the Goldsands Stadium at 20:45

Real Madrid will play a friendly match against AFC Bournemouth on Sunday 21st July, in preparation for the 2013/14 season. The match against the English team, newly promoted to the Football League Championship (Second Division), will be played at Bournemouth’s Goldsands Stadium at 20:45 (19:45 local time).

“Real Madrid are at the pinnacle of global sport and to host them will be an honour for the squad, management and supporters of AFC Bournemouth. We are honoured to have been chosen”, said Eddie Mitchell, chairman of the English club.

Emilio Butragueno, Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations, also spoke about the match: “The friendly match will be a fantastic opportunity for both teams and we are looking forward to travelling to Bournemouth and to the Goldsands Stadium. We look forward the challenge presented to us by our English opponents”.

This match will be the first to be played by Carlo Ancelotti’s team in the 2013/14 preseason. Three days later they will play against Lyon, Karim Benzema’s old club, at the Gerland Stadium at 21:00 and then on 27th July they will play in Sweden against Paris Saint-Germain at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg at 20:00.

Ticket info for Real Madrid’s match against the fabulously named Cherries can be found on the AFC Bournemouth website. I have an old friend who grew up there, I’m going to have to commend him 0n his hometown team’s nickname.

So, any of our English watishistas planning on attending? It’s only a couple of hours from London via train. If I was still living there, I’d be hauling arse to the shore to catch the boys for sure. If I want to see them this summer, I’m looking at at a 3 hour flight minimum.  😦

The bulk of the team will report for pre-season training on July 15th with the exception of those who had international duty. They’ll show up on July 22nd. Not much longer until this whole new experiment kicks off!

I totally would but I’m hopefully moving to Madrid in Sept for 6 months and will be 10-15 mins away from the Bernabeu so I’m saving my pennies for the theatre of dreams…

Oooh, that’s awesome! But if you’re close by Bournemouth, I’d still jump on this chance. You can never see Los Blancos enough and in Bournemouth, you’d have an easier time of getting near the players (I would think) than you will in Madrid or a comparably large city.

True, unfortunately I’m in the mIdlands and train fare ain’t cheap. Hmm I think I’ll look into it 🙂

Squeeeeeeeee! I had such a giggling fit when I read this online today. I can’t even begin to wonder how they picked Bournemouth!

Its a pity that all of my friends hate football. If necessary I’ll go by myself…Im going to try & book tickets online tomorrow, wish me luck, apparently its a 9,000 seater stadium!

you will probably never see them in such a small venue again. it would be fantastic! close enough to see xabi’s individual beard hairs.

So true! I’ve never seen them in a stadium that has less than 50,000 seats. Good luck getting the tickets! You’ll have to do a full report for us. Our watishista on the ground. 🙂 PS Tickets don’t go on sale to general public until July 11th. Season ticket holders get first dibs.

I just want to second everyone’s thoughts of watching Real Madrid. I can tell I went to see Barca play in February and it was and is one of my highlights of my life. (Sad, darn sad)!!!

Great news about the ticket sale dates – It’ll give me some time to plan how to con my friends into a weekend in Bournemouth! Failing that there’s always the ex BF (who’s actually a cule) – Hey, I’m a resourceful girl, I’ll think of something 🙂 Let’s hope they don’t actually have 9,000 season ticket holders eh?!
