Confederations Cup: Spain vs Italy

3 Jul

This is one of two last Confed Cup game recaps…..let’s categorize it as the only one where you’ll see Spain smiling, shall we? I have a love/hate relationship with penalty shootouts, maybe everyone does. It’s a little exciting when teams you don’t support have to go through them, but when it’s your team….nuh uh. Eyes get squeezed shut, hands to my face (fingernail-less hands I should add), and lots and lots of holding my breath whilst praying. But I’m getting ahead of myself, there was a whole 120 minutes of disappointment before that, it definitely wasn’t the Euro final redo I was expecting. Italy had all the attacking power, but lacked the luck to get any goals in and Spain had Iker & Italy’s inability to score going for them. In the end, it was the little bird that had us saying “Thank you, Jesus!”

The man loves his pre-game besos. Can you blame him?

Two teams, two kinds of heat, equal amounts of yum.

One of Spain’s best chances came in the last minute of regular time, which was a shame, not only because it came so late, but because Sergio couldn’t make a goal of it….

And so began extra time…or torture time, as I like to call it. Let’s call it what it is, peeps!Spain's coach Vicente Del Bosque talks to Fernando Torres before the start of extra-time of their Confederations Cup semi-final soccer match against Italy at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza

Am I the only one who squirms a little at this Gif? It looks a tad painful.

The penalties…

The joy….

as usual, iker was part of my favorite game moments. first, the pre-game besos when gigi tenderly whispered in his ear. then, when he posted “and jesus scored” on facebook after the game.

i also love sergio closing his eyes just for a second as he hugs pirlo. i would too.

Pirlo has a sex beard that makes all other sex beards jealous. *__*

Yes he does. I love me some Pirlo. He’s right next to Gigi Buffon in my heart.

Aren’t all men very closeeeee to each other in your heart? 😉 As it should be.

HAHAHA! Yes, they are. You know me so well.

Gigi is one of the greatest bromancers of all time.

Look at one of my fave moments:

              Ahhhhh! Cute!!!

I love that he’s such a hair rebel. He’s like fuck headbands, I do bobby pins, baby!

The hair grips were one of my fav things about Euro 2012; a practical AND stylish alternative to hairbands!

I have a seriously long term thang for this man. I love headbands, as you well know, but Gigi is his own man. Bobby pins are perfect for him.

And let us not forget his snogging Thierry Henry! Gigi is living out all of our fantasies. A true watishisto.

Uhhh…whew….now this is an excellent way for all the players to unite against racism!

      • Mehreh July 3, 2013 at 2:03 pm #

maybe sergio was asking pirlo how his beard became so powerful?

    • CinematiqueChic July 3, 2013 at 1:47 pm #

It kind of looks like Pirlo is trying to get away from that hug. Pirlo, if I could take have taken your place, I would.

god I hate games that are decided by penalty shots….but hey, bravo to the Italians for challenging the Spanish boys…..

Iker was the bright spot of the match. It’s still so great to see him play again, and between he and Gigi loving it up, and the fact that he was a total boss who played a big part in Italy not going ahead in regular time, my love and appreciation grew even more.

I watched the extra time and the penalty shoot out while hiding under a blanket – it was that stressful. Especially since I’d dreamt that Italy won the match on penalties, so when it actually went to penalties I was freaking out.

It’s fantastic whenever Iker and Gigi are on the same pitch. There’s just so much boss in the two of them, and then you add their teammates… I loved this match. It was nerve-wracking, but I loved it.

All this love for my Juventus boys, and deservedly so! Buffon is pure class and Pirlo is so enigmatic and composed how can anyone, even Sergio, resist.

And consider this: Buffon, Pirlo, Marchisio, Bonnuci and now Llorente are all at Juventus. Thinking they get the title as prettiest (and best dressed) squad in the world this season.

I’m pretty sure that next to Madrid, Juve has had the most number of Daily Drools.

When Shigs and I saw them play a couple of years ago, they had 5 Drool alums on the pitch at once and one on the bench. It was a very happy day!
