Welcome Home Dani!

Steady on there, Peez.

Steady on there, Peez.

Dani was greeted joyously on his return to the club. I prefer to think of it as his junior year abroad. But now he’s back home where he belongs. He passed his medical this morning with flying colors and without wearing jorts. I’m looking at you, Isco. Reconocimiento_mýdico_de_Carvajal Carvajal_passes_his_medical_examNext, it was time to sign his contract with FloPeezy. The contract is for 6 seasons and he will wear the number 15.

Then it was on to his official presentation in the Director’s Box with FloPeezy.

FROM REALMADRID.COM “In 2002 I put on this shirt and began to fight for a dream that`s come true” by Alberto Navarro I feel a special pride to welcome you. Your case will become the example for many academy players that the dream can come true”, said Florentino Perez Carvajal was unveiled as a new Real Madrid player in the Directors’ Box at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The ex-academy player returns home and has fulfilled the dream of playing in a Real Madrid shirt: “In 2002 I put on this shirt and began to fight for a dream that has come true today. I am the happiest person in the world. I’ll give my last breath for the good of this team and club”. Alongside him was the president, Florentino Perez, who only had words of praise for the defender that is a product of The Factory: “Your case will become the example for many academy players that the dream can come true. You have earned the right to be here and know better than anyone what it means to defend this badge. It is a great responsibility but also something wonderful because of what it stands for. Welcome home”. Miguel Pardeza, Director of Football, and several members of the board also accompanied the player at the unveiling ceremony. In the Directors’ Box at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, and amidst much expectation, Florentino Perez took to the floor to welcome Carvajal to the first team: “We continue to make progress in building the squad and today we take another step forward with conviction and a special dose of pride. We believe in our academy. Santiago Bernabeu did so with the best players in the world, the best Spanish players and spirit of the academy. That is what this legendary club is built upon. Today we welcome home and give the club’s shirt to Dani Carvajal. Congratulations, Dani. Your case will become the example for many academy players that the dream can come true. You start a new phase of your career under the orders of Ancelotti and you also come here as a European Under-21s champion”. The Whites’ president praised the stature of the academy player, who returns home and has a great future ahead of him at Real Madrid: “You bring with you a never-ending eagerness, talent and desire, as you learned at this club. You know Real Madrid’s values and now a crucial part of your challenge begins. Getting into the first team is very difficult and you’ve done so after your magnificent work at Leverkusen. You come back with experience and you know that being part of this dressing room is an extraordinary feat for any player. I know you will make the most of this opportunity. Nine years ago you entered into Real Madrid’s history, with the help of Di Stefano, in the ceremony for the laying the first stone at Real Madrid’s Football City. That boy’s dreams have become reality and you come here as the best right back in the Bundesliga”. In conclusion, the Real Madrid president highlighted the enormous responsibility that he has in playing in a first team shirt: “You have earned the right to be here and know better than anyone what it means to defend this badge. It is a great responsibility but also something wonderful because of what it stands for. Welcome home”. Meanwhile, Carvajal, who was cheered by the more than 1200 fans that were present in the stands, was thrilled to have fulfilled the dream that he had since joining the club at age-group level: “I want to say thank you for the trust that has been placed in me. Thanks to the decision to go away for a year I can be here with you. In 2002 I put on this shirt and began to fight for a dream that has come true today. I am the happiest person in the world. I’ll give my last breath for the good of this team and club”. The ceremony ended with a group photo of Florentino Perez and the rest of the members of the board alongside Carvajal. Then he took to the pitch to show off his skills to the 1200 fans who came to welcome him home.

I’m not so big on people kissing the escudo when they first sign for RM, but Dani has more earned the right – he’s been a part of Real Madrid over half his life. He joined when he was 10 in 2002.

He was whisked off to his first presser…

He posed for some studio shots…

And then did an interview with Real Madrid TV.  I’ll post translations when they appear on the mothership.

Here’s a video (in Spanish) all about Dani’s big day.
