Well at least he is in this ad for NBC Sports’ Premier League coverage. He plays Coach Ted Lasso who is described thusly: “Coach Lasso is a Football coach born and raised in Texas. He’s just arrived in England to coach in the Premier League and he’s realizing…..It’s Football just not as we know it.” Wonder if they’ll turn this into a series of commercials? I mean, who doesn’t love Jason Sudeikis? “What are those? Trust exercises?” ::snort::
Updated: Here’s more Coach Lasso and a report on the cool NYC subway campaign NBC is doing from Dirty Tackle.

I both love and hate the “dumb it down for Americans” approach…
It’s pretty funny – check out the update I just made. That subway campaign is pretty awesome! I’ll have to get up to the shuttle and take some pictures.
‘Wales, is that another country?’
‘Yes and no’
Brilliant!
I thought of you when I heard that line! As our resident Welsh watishista, I was wondering if you’d get a kick out of that.
Oh, huge-ly! I get so much stick as a Welshie generally, my response is: Ian Rush, Ryan Giggs, Richard Burton, the Welsh rugby NT, Dylan Thomas. Plus we’ve got dragons, if that helps
😛
Dragons, ftw! And of course Gareth Thomas!
This is cute! My NFL loving friends get pissy when I called their game. “Hand egg” so if they need my game dumbed down, fine. At least they will start to understand the deep conflict that comes with loving a team’s players and not loving the team (Chelsea).
OMG!! I call it hand-egg too!!!! And I actually like NFL. Obviously not the way I love my beloved REAL football, but still.
Also, totally understand loving players and not a team (Chelsea)
I also call it hand-egg! Bwahahaha!
Heh. I also refer to it as “hand egg” I come from a family of hand egg enthusiasts and I have never been able to understand the game no matter how hard I try or how many times it has been explained to me. Not fast paced enough for me!
“How many countries are in this country?!?”
I absolutely love this! It hits on all the things my American non-footy friends say about the game (low score, confusion about the offside rule etc.) and it gently teases both football fans and the non fans. I hope the whole marketing campaign is this good.
That was hilarious! I have to watch it again. But I really wish Tim Howard would shave that thing off! He is too good looking to have it hidden.
