Sese thankfully covered his hair while Iker got a new awkwardly placed murse

Los Blancos arrived night in Miami and Iker has a new bag. I wonder if his Madrid murse is going to get jealous? Lord, that boy is incapable of looking cool while carrying a bag isn’t he? Llegada_a_Miami (9)

There’s a presser happening right about now and then the team trains at 6:00 PM Eastern (more on all that later).

One totally exciting thing that happened: Milan legends Paolo Maldini and Andriy Shevchenko stopped by to visit  Ancelotti & Kaka, their former coach and teammate. A whole lot of famous people fangirling over each other ensued. I was particularly excited to see Maldini pose with The Baby. He also warmly greeted Sergio. And Maldini/Zizou? ::thud:: (Can you tell I have a thing for Maldini? In all fairness, who doesn’t?) This part of the post is going to make watishista forzasusan so happy!

Arbeloa was interviewed and he mentioned Albiolita briefly. ::sniffle::
Arbeloa: “We have high hopes for this season and hopefully we can give the fans things to celebrate”

“Things feel good, the team has been strengthened well and there is a good base from recent years”, said the Real Madrid defender Arbeloa (1)After playing in the Confederations Cup, Alvaro Arbeloa joined Real Madrid’s preseason tour of the United States. The Whites’ defender is eager to start his fifth season since returning to the club in 2009. In an interview for Adidas he spoke about his first impressions of Ancelotti: “Those of us who have joined the squad later only have a few days training but so far everything is going well, training sessions are intense as usual in the preseason”. With respect to the objectives and squad’s form, he said: “Things feel good, the team has been strengthened well and there is a good base from recent years and we have high hopes for this season and hopefully we can give the fans things to celebrate” Arbeloa (5)One of the new things that Arbeloa has found on his return after the holidays is the incorporation of Zinedine Zidane as assistant coach. “I was fortunate to be able to share the dressing room with him as a player and I expect that having him as a coach will be a positive experience and we can learn something from the great player that he was”, said the Spanish defender that, when asked, whether he has a footballing idol, he named the Frenchman: “If I had to choose someone, it would be Zidane”. Arbeloa (2)Real Madrid play their opening competitive match at home against Betis on Sunday 18th August. Arbeloa explained what it feels like to step out onto the Bernabeu turf: “It is a unique experience that is repeated every week and it’s always special to play in a stadium like the Bernabeu”. The defender was delighted with the new Adidas kits: “I like them a lot, especially the blue one. The away kit is the one I like most and I hope the fans do too”. Arbeloa (4)The defender recalled how his passion for football started: “I liked football from being very small, as soon as I could lift my foot off of the ground I began to play”. He also revealed some dressing room secrets such as the music they listen to. “Before going out to play we usually listen to whatever Marcelo or Sergio Ramos put on. If I had to choose a favourite song it would be Now we are free, from the Gladiator soundtrack”. About the biggest jokers in the squad, he said: “It is hard to choose, we lost some funny guys like Higuain and Albiol, but there are still some left, like Marcelo and company, who are always joking around”.

Wonder if this is when the photog asked him to think of Albiol? :-(

Wonder if the photog told him to think of Albiol? 😦

I think the sex beard needs to make a return. That would cheer him (and us) up. Sergio was interviewed by Kay Murray for BeInSport and here’s a couple of quick pictures. I’m sure we’ll have more on that later.

I found this piccy of Sergio & Iker from earlier in the week. How the heck did I miss that? FirmasAnd the mothership posted this Miami picture of Sergio. Sese MiamiAs I look at that coif, I kept thinking it reminded me of something besides Draco Malfoy, Silas or Roy Batty. It finally hit me. It looks like when Ted Schmidt had a midlife crisis in Season 5 of Queer As Folk US and went platinum.

Oh Sergio, are you having some issues? Why don’t you just buy a red sports car? That we could handle.

A couple of other quick things: Cris has been shortlisted for the 2012/2013 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award along with Leo Messi and Franck Ribery. The winner (as voted by journalists) will be named on August 29th at the Champions League Draw in Monaco. And Real Madrid will be partnering with EA Sports to special edition of the FIFA 14 game. They will also do a campaign with our first team players: a tournament to see which of them is the best at FIFA 14. Now that’s going to be fun!

More later!

      • headbandsandheartbreak August 7, 2013 at 10:50 am #

No, she’s going to the game in St. Louis – she replied to one of your other comments about that.

why do I keep confusing her with CinematiqueChic……I am exhausted from last night, and tonight will be worse. I’ve lost my mind to Real Madrid.

          • headbandsandheartbreak August 7, 2013 at 11:22 am #

I must say I’m delighted that you actually went to watch the games instead of just ogling Sergio at training. 🙂 ::Wipes proud motherly tear from eye::

I’m sure I won’t have a voice tomorrow after tonights’ hoopla!

              • Dr. Heidi August 7, 2013 at 1:02 pm #

I don’t think any of my dream encounters with Sergio will happen tonight *damn*. they’ll just have to come back to Miami – maybe next time…..

              • Dr. Heidi August 7, 2013 at 1:15 pm #

did I just say I’m a madridista? When the hell did THAT happen????? 🙂

                • mygypsyspirit August 7, 2013 at 5:03 pm #

It’s okay. Everyone realizes it sooner or later 😉

Whoa! The earth just shifted! Take a bow, Dr. Heidi, Madridista!

  4. Phédre August 7, 2013 at 2:16 am #

Paolo Maldini…sigh… My very first football crush and probably the reason I always have a thing for defenders. He was my mother’s favorite too so we fangirled together!
Is that Torres Instagram real? If so he already used it in the best possible way!

  5. Mehreh August 7, 2013 at 12:45 pm #

a fate worse than death: being forced to listen to a medley of flamenco and lil wayne before every game. poor alvaro.

Butragueno was there too! Maldini is gorgeous and it was exciting to see him of course but Butra was such an incredible sighting! (This is CinematiqueChic BTW – can’t sign in under properly b/c of dumb Internet at my hotel).

    • Dr. Heidi August 7, 2013 at 1:14 pm #

here you are! You’ll be at SunLife stadium tonight I know!

      • CinematiqueChic August 8, 2013 at 11:47 am #

Hey, yeah I was there. Sorry I didn’t see any of your inquiries earlier – the hotel I was at charged extra for internet, so I’ve mostly been offline and out in the sunshine for the past few days.

        • Dr. Heidi August 8, 2013 at 12:32 pm #

sorry I missed you! would have been nice to meet….

I wonder what Paolo said to Sergio about his hair. To be a fly on the wall for that conversation!!
