Playing Catch Up: Real Madrid Arrive & Train In St. Louis

Ooof, The Baby is rocking the Xabi classic cool pose.

The only crappy thing about taking a night off is that it means I have even more to catch up on (and I was already a couple of days behind on stuff).  However, not a lot of time to do that tonight, so expect some big posts over the weekend.

The team arrived last night in St. Louis after a short flight. They’re currently holed up at the Ritz Carlton.

A sight I’ll never get sick of seeing: Zizou

I love Marcelo's nerd glasses!

The team trained last night at the Robert R. Hermann Stadium where the match against Inter will be held tomorrow. I love what the RM photogs are doing lately. These shots of Iker & Cris make them look like they’re running for president…OF OUR HEARTS.

Entreno_en_Saint_Louis (8)But if this was the result (and I’m not saying that it is), methinks he should stick to his day job.

Not much could be cuter than Marcelo except, perhaps, Marcelo in Iker’s gloves…

Poor Fabio looks like he ate a bad batch of clams and the Mister is commiserating.

Insert Sergio dropping things joke here.

Feel free to insert the “Sergio dropping things” joke of your choice here.

Villiam Vecchi looks like he'd be fun at parties.

"Be running up that road,Be running up that hill, With no problem"

“Be running up that road,Be running up that hill, With no problem” (Kate Bush, ftw!)

Seeing this trio together makes me so damn happy!

Seeing this trio together again makes me so damn happy!

It’s awesome to see Carlo & Zizou on the ball. Once a player, always a player. I think that the RM photogs agree – they take so many pictures of Zizou! They must be secretly fangirling like any reasonable, sane human being would!

I’m so bummed that I can’t be at the game tomorrow. I decided to throw caution to the winds and find a last minute flight but I waited too long and everything was exorbitant. I’ll leave mygypsyspirit to carry the HB & HB torch in St. Louis. Have a fantastic time!

MGEF had some great keeper shots from the training on August 2nd. Enjoy!

And on that note, I’m getting ready to head out and have dinner with Shigs. We haven’t seen each other in – gasp!– almost 2 weeks! This is unacceptable in our world.

Welcome to The Lou! You’re actually quite lucky, we’re having unseasonal cool weather for August (that’s not sarcasm, it really is cool for this time of year). If you have any questions about the city, feel free to ask.

Ha! I live in Georgia…. August is worse than hell. Didn’t stay long. I’m off in the morning. Only got in on Friday. But work calls! Had a good time minus the whole pitch invasion thing. What idiots! That kills the chances of Madrid coming back to St. Louis. Possibly even the US

I understand the work thing, I usually work 15 hr days and was suppose to work today, but got someone to cover… If they don’t come back to StL, I’d understand. The pitch invasion was just ridiculous. Hope you have a safe trip home tomorrow.

It’s a serious security issue. You don’t know if someone is going to run up to Kaka and hug him, or try to do something to him, you know? I was embarrassed. Seriously.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself!

I think Cris may have set the precedent here in Miami…..he was so gracious, and luckily, the fan was just doing the hero worship thing. I don’t think it will affect their visits to the US….the crowds were passionate (not that they don’t get ALL the passion they need from the European fans, but we did ourselves proud!) and they just need to step up security…..luckily, none of these episodes turned into an incident.

              • mygypsyspirit August 11, 2013 at 10:09 pm #

That’s the problem. I’m not blaming Cris at all. But these fans saw what he did and went for it. And the first fan in St. Louis ran up to Kaka and he just hugged him and smiled too. But really, what are these guys going to do? Cris isn’t going to push the guy away. He knows it would hurt his image. And he’s not that kind of guy anyway. Kaka is not the brightest bulb, but he knows his reputation too. But security issues will affect how the club looks at their time in the US. Kaka, Cristiano, even Sergio probably went back to the dressing room complaining about the people who ran onto the field. The time in the US is not easy for them. It was always Mourinho’s thing. I’m not saying they won’t come back, but it will play a part if they don’t.

I’m just pissed I didn’t have the cajones to do the same to Sergio 🙂 Problem is, I wouldn’t let go…..

So sad I can’t go 😦 Kicker is they’re only going to be two hours away from me. Something came up but at least I’ll be near a TV to watch it.

I’m having withdrawal after having been in the same city as them for 2 glorious days!

    • Dr Heidi August 9, 2013 at 7:01 pm #

I know, right? We have a glorious sickness, don’t we….

    Hill sprints!!! Awesome.

Someday this team will come to my New England. I’m willing it to happen.

I can’t believe they’re actually here in StL! They practiced at SLU today & unfortunately I work at SLU med school, which is not on the main campus. At least I’ve got awesome seats for tomorrow. (I have to say I was a little disappointed I didn’t see Sergio at the mall that’s not too far from their hotel.)

    • jellyace August 10, 2013 at 2:48 am #

haha! Sergi Sparkles: “Let’s go to the!”

      • SR 4 August 10, 2013 at 9:56 am #

Omg hahah! Just imagine him singing the song flamenco style and wearing sparkly clothes.
Now I´m thinking of him singing sandcastles in the sand to Nando and adapting it to freckles in your face… I so have a proplem and watch too much tv.

      • Heather August 10, 2013 at 6:17 pm #

The Gap even had green skinny jeans there! If that doesn’t scream Sergio, I don’t know what does.

A thing I love about this team is it has beautiful men ranging in age from zizou to the baby giraffe. Something for everyone, but everything for me 🙂

    • mygypsyspirit August 10, 2013 at 12:05 am #

Seriously…. And the entire team is 10 times more beautiful up close and personal

      • Mehreh August 10, 2013 at 1:37 am #

Unrealistic-ly so. Sorry real life men.
