He’s posting black and white shots on Twitter, so you know he’s happy. Here he is checking out the sights of Lyon. He made his debut today for Real Sociedad in the Champions League playoff round vs. Lyon AND HE WAS WEARING A HEADBAND because it is right and proper and good. Hmph. La Real won handily with two jawdropping golazos.
First up was Antoine Griezmann’s stonking scissor kick. This is just unreal. I was working from home (and sneaking peeks at the game) and I shrieked out loud when I saw this. That pretty much puts the “beautiful” in the beautiful game, doesn’t it? Oof.
And then Haris Seferović put this beauty in long range at an angle that by all rights just should not have worked but DAMN.
All I gotta say is that RM & Barca are gonna have to watch their backs – La Real might be the big surprise of the season if they keep this sort of thing up.
On a shallow note, I deeply enjoyed seeing Yoann Gourcuff and Esteban standing near each other in so many shots. Very nice, indeed.
Antoine and his sister Simone made this adorable and goofy video of their trip to NYC last year which completely cracked me up. They’re total dorks and I love them for it. When I commute to work tomorrow, I’m going to whisper “Enjoy!” to everything I come in contact with in my beloved city. Masougio, prepare to sign me out of Bellvue, okay?
Then I watched this commercial for the Real Sociedad/Lyon match and got all weepy. For those that don’t know, this is La Real’s first time playing in Europe in a decade, so it’s a huge deal. It features captain Xabi Prieto, who came up through La Real’s youth system and has played over 300 matches for the first team. When La Real was relegated after the 2006-2007 season, he stuck with them and helped them achieve promotion back to La Liga in 2010.
::sniffle:: I’m wishing only the best for the Txuri-urdin this season and I know they’ll take good care our hipster. Just play him regularly, provide him with a decent used record store and all the peacoats he can wear and he’ll be a happy camper.

The “enjoy” video is killing me. I’m glad they did! I would totally go on vacation and dork around with them. Silly is universal!
It is so nice to see the pirate doing his thing again. He was too quiet for too long.
But… What if in a cruel twist of fate sociedad and RM meet in the CL? I assume they will have a huge group hug and shout “PIRATOUSKY!!” after the match.
They are too cute. And Antoine dancing around in Times Square slays me. I would go on vacay with them too. They are unabashedly geeking out and it’s wonderful. 🙂
Guess you’ll have to settle for vacay with me and Stoppie 😉
That’ll work nicely. We can say “Enjoy!” all over town. 🙂
Pick out the Barca fans and troll them…
See, this is why I call this team my hot poolboy team. Real Madrid is my lovely footballing husband equivalent, but every now and then we need a little distraction. (Especially from all the wank out there right now. DEAR GOD HOLD ME BACK!) And that’s where the hot poolboy team comes in. And my they do entertain! My little punk Antoine basically stuck it to his old team (who dumped him cause they thought he was too slight to be a good player) and the Seferovic goal was gorgeous too. And Pirata got his first minutes as well! Can’t wait to see the return leg next week. Aupa Reala!
And may I commend La Real’s social media team. That commercial with Xabi Prieto is beautiful, and just watching all the team coverage they have makes me think that they’ve taken a few notes from Man City.
Can you tell how much I love them? As Antoine and his sis say, ENJOY! That video never fails to make me smile 🙂
That is a beautiful, beautiful shot. And that vid had me giggling like mad. Its so nice to see siblings goofing around like this having a blast.
Seems like Antoine Griezman and Sergio Ramos have the same hairdresser.
Put the bleach down and step away! Iceman go away!
So happy for La Real! And that is such a heart-warming ad.
The NY tourist board needs to use that video for their next ad!
Have to say that while watching that game, I saw several “daily drool” candidates… 🙂 All sorts of goodness, but mostly I am super happy to see La Pirata at a team who has potential to succeed, unlike last year. 🙂
