Another week, another stern looking picture of Carlito on the mothership. I love these shots. Flotsam & Jetsam are getting a real workout in this one!

The team had one final training before heading off to Granada. Jesus, Xabi, Sami, The Baby & Denis are still recovering. The rest of the team and José Rodriguez got down to work at Valdebebas.

“This one’s for you, Shigs” ::huge grin::

The following players were called up:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Diego López and Tomás Mejías.
Defenders: Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Arbeloa, Nacho, Marcelo and Carvajal.
Midfield: Kaká, José Rodríguez, Özil, Modric, Casemiro, Isco and Di María.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Jesé and Morata.

Carlo did his presser and went into his thoughts on the goalkeeper conundrum, Tata Martino’s remarks, our injuries and more.

Ancelotti: “Granada are a good team, but we want the three points”

“The squad is looking good are we are confident we’ll have a good game and set out to win”, assured the Madrid coach
Realmadrid.com

Real Madrid face Granada in the Los Cármenes stadium in the second match of the league and Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media in the press room the day before the match. The Italian coach analysed the game and appeared confident. “The team is in good shape. We want to play better, because we didn’t play too well in the first match and we struggled to win. This time we want a more decisive win. We know Granada are a good team. They beat Real Madrid at home last season and we have to be careful in our first away game. We need the three points and the team is focused on playing well. We watched the first Granada game and they played very well. They were quick, well organised both in defence and in offence and I think it will be a tough match. We’re confident we’ll have a good game and set out to win”, assured the coach.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_ (4)The squad is extensive and there are plenty of reserve players and, when asked about the midfield he would use against the Andalusian side he said, “Illaramendi is recovering well and he will start training with the squad next week. I don’t think he will be available for the match against Athletic but he will be ready when the league restarts after the international matches. We have a problem with Khedira but we can solve it either with Casemiro or with Isco playing closer to Modric”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_When asked about the position Cristiano would play and about Karim playing as a forward, he said, “I think, as I have said before, that Cristiano can play either on the wing or in the centre… but this doesn’t change anything for Karim. The two of them make a good combination and there’s no problem with them playing together. Karim is a player who likes to move and he doesn’t have a fixed position on the field”. About Özil, he said, “In the friendly against Betis he began defensively on the right and when he has the ball he needs to be in the centre. The team needs Özil and they need him to feel comfortable. He doesn’t have any problem”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_ (8)Real Madrid have two top goalkeepers, Iker Casillas and Diego López, and the coach was clear on this point, “The club is very lucky to have two fantastic keepers and I have to make the decisions. It’s normal for me to make this kind of decision and gauge the reaction. I’m not going to say who the keeper will be tomorrow. There has been a lot of talk going around and I would prefer to talk to both players first, then I’ll make a decision, but it won’t be definitive”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_ (1)When talking about Diego López warming up before half time in the Santiago Bernabéu Trophy match, Ancelotti wanted to be clear, “In football, the goalkeeper needs to warm up more than other players. Diego started warming up five minutes beforehand so he would be ready to warm up in the goal mouth during the break. That was the reason. There was no lack of respect. Goalkeepers need to warm up more than other players”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_ (7)When asked about the crowd’s reaction during the trophy match, he said, “It was a little unpleasant for me because I know the Real Madrid fans well. It’s important to know that I make decisions so that the team wins and, above all, it’s important to understand that it’s not Iker or Diego who is playing, it’s the Real Madrid goalkeeper. It’s not Kaká or Benzema who is playing, it’s a Real Madrid player. The coach can always make mistakes, but I try to make decisions for the team and for the club. I’ve played against Madrid many times and it’s not easy to be the opposition because the atmosphere is very charged. The supporters are very important to all of us. The Santiago Bernabéu stadium is our home ground and we have to feel welcome there. I’m sure there the fans will be behind us for the next game”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_ (2)On this point, the Italian coach wanted to add, “I think that if the team plays badly, the crowd has to whistle. That’s the way it is anywhere in the world. For that reason I don’t ask for anything. All I ask, and I think this is very important, is for support, that the whole crowd is behind the team. In the end of the day, if you play a bad game, it’s normal that the crowd whistle”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Carlo_Ancelotti_ (6)The transfer market is still open and, when asked about Tottenham player Gareth Bale, Ancelotti claimed, “I have other problems at the moment. I understand the interest, but I can’t say anything because at this moment he is not a Real Madrid player, so I can’t answer your question. I know the market is very busy because it closes very soon, but he is not part of the Real Madrid team”.

The RM photos added a gratuitous shot of Zizou. Gracias!

The RM photogs added a gratuitous shot of Zizou. Gracias!

To round up, the coach answered a question about the Barcelona coach. “I don’t understand what he said. Tata Martino hasn’t been here that long and he doesn’t understand how European football works yet, or how his club works. Barcelona have signed key players and played a lot of money for them. I don’t want to talk about it. What he said was very strange”.

The team headed off to Granada and had a fantastic reception on arrival: over 500 people at the airport and over a thousand at the hotel. Wow!

Morata was looking particularly fetching. He’s grown into such a handsome young man. It seems like just yesterday he was a Daily Drool we were feeling very guilty about. Granada_-_Real_Madrid (5)

It’s good to see the Evil Bunny Bus back in action. With so many changes this year to hair, personnel, etc., it’s nice to have something stable to cling on to.

Isco and Dani Carvajal were chosen to sign autographs at the AC Palacio de Santa Paula Hotel where the team is staying.

While I’m here, I thought I’d congratulate Calleti who scored in his Serie A debut! Napoli beat Bologna 3-0.

fcfaf0c20dda11e3bc7922000ae90d97_7And all three of our boys (along with Pepe Reina) were in the starting line up! Poor Albiol got injured from a nasty foul in the 5th minute but was able to continue.

7661957a0dda11e399e022000a1fb043_7The Napoli photogs have some really great shots (the one of Albiol is delicious) and some mystifying ones (Pipita, badly lit, pointing at a wall).

A little collage of Pipita scoring during the pre-season was most welcome. The shelf booty looks good in baby blue.
f0dee0ec014511e3a91222000aeb1b9a_7And I really want to know who thought it was a good idea to separate Albiolita? Tsk tsk, shame on them!

1cc5397a0da511e38d1322000a1fb079_7And if the RM photogs can have a gratuitous Zizou shot, then I can have a gratuitous El Pirata shot. (Via football-hqs)

tumblr_mrnc7pc0rj1rjev45o1_500Oooof, he is looking so fine. I guess Donostia agrees with him. Whatever is in the water there to make Basque men so pretty is only gonna serve to hot up our fave pirate even more.

And now, back to work for me! Hope everyone had a great weekend…

Even though the Napoli match wasn’t on TV (for some reason BeIn thought it was more important to play the Barca match – pffffft!) I was so happy for Calleti when I saw that he scored! I’m glad our boys seem to be doing well there.

And I said this once today already but it’s worth repeating – damn Pirata looks good! That’s one handsome Pirate.

Why will I have trouble sleeping this Sunday night? Perhaps because my friend put Kaka directly after a totally innocuous jump.

Sorry boo. Didn’t think you’d see it until tomorrow. Still less scary than Luther Season 3. Why can’t I sleep? My frigging neighbors a few houses down decided to have a party ON A SUNDAY night and show a movie in the back yard with the surround sound cranking out of their 3rd floor window. It’s bouncing off every other building and it’s ridiculously loud. I HATE THEM.

I am still more afraid of Benzema the loner going postal on us one day. I think his hair style is a secret message to warn us of his Jekyll and Hyde personality.

      • headbandsandheartbreak August 26, 2013 at 1:26 pm #

I can totally see that. I won’t tell Shigs though. The more players she thinks are serial killers, the less time she’ll spend watching matches with me! I guess I just have to hope the pretty outweigh the homicidal. 😉

I may have messaged Mandi and told her Shigs was going to freak over that shot of Kaka. It’s a never ending source of amusement. I giggle while I plot her demise at the hands of Kaka *evil grin*

P.S. I remind you of Lozil’s ability to see into the crystal ball: “Today’s little boy, tomorrow’s hottie! ;-)”

    mejias got called up!

my favorites all look beautiful, as usual!

    not bad for a monday.

anyone know anything about pipita taking a bit of a spill last night/today?

    • Katie Ann August 26, 2013 at 10:09 am #

I read that he slipped on some rocks and did a faceplant. Got stitches along his jaw. Poor Pipita!

      • Mehreh August 26, 2013 at 12:49 pm #

i just saw the pictures. poor thing!

I still find it so weird seeing those 3 with Napoli 😥 they suit the blue, but they don’t look right out of the Madrid kit!
Also, loved Carlo’s reply to Martino. I don’t really agree with how much we’re paying (Bale’s not overrated, just over-priced IMHO) but what Martino said was a bit mad!
