UPDATED: Orange You Glad There’s Two Other Kits So You Don’t Have To Buy This One?

12 Sep
"We are so obviously being punished."

“We are so obviously being punished.”

Wow, they look super enthusiastic, don’t they? Sorry I’m getting to this so late – long day at work. The new kits are very…orange. I like orange, don’t get me wrong, but that is A LOT of orange. Shigs will be delighted – it’s her fave color, but seriously, isn’t that a bit too much…ORANGE? A few thoughts…

  1. At least they’ll be easy to spot on the pitch.
  2.  The color may blind opponents, allowing us to cruise to the top of our CL group.
  3. They kinda look like orange popsicles. I sure do like popsicles.
  4. They also look like giant Man-Carrots. I find this to be an interesting concept. Please hold the “I just want to juice ’em” jokes, thank you very much.
  5. Do we really want to encourage certain members of the squad known for tanning so much that they already resemble Oompa Loompas ::cough:: CRIS ::cough:: to wear orange? He’s going to be the Invisible Man. Hmmmm, that might help against defenders.
  6. Guti & Sergio probably LOVE these kits. They’re buying trousers in this shade even as we speak.
  7. It’s not so much orange as a darker schoolbus or pencil yellow, don’t you think?
If I were you, Peez, I'd watch my back. They're hairy eyeballing you.

If I were you, Peez, I’d watch my back. They’re hairy eyeballing you.

"Um, do I have to come out in this?"

“Um, do I really have to come out in this?”

Sigh. It is what it is, you know? Don’t like the kit? There will be three more to choose from next year. And to think, just two seasons ago we were whining because one of our kits had a collar. A COLLAR, PEOPLE! What I wouldn’t give to have those kits back.

UPDATED: Watishista SR4 said they’re the color of synthetic food like Tang or Kraft mac n’ cheese. I was trying to think of what they reminded me of and when she said that, it clicked in. CHEEZ DOODLES!  Like if you touched them, that nasty orange powder would be on your fingers. ::shudder:: When  I think of touching any member of Real Madrid, that is not the image I want coming to my mind.

There was an interview with Bale (you can see video here at Marca). The mothership also had a story in which the guys just RAVED about how awesome the new kits are.

Benz, you adorable doofus!

Real Madrid presented their third kit for the 2013/14 season
by Diego Jabalquinto

“It is an honour to be at this club, I have been very well welcomed”, said Bale, who along with Marcelo and Benzema showed off the new orange shirt, the second one that the team will use in the Champions League

Real Madrid and Adidas unveiled the Whites’ third kit for the 2013/14 season on the roof-top terrace of Torre Europa in the Spanish capital. Bale, Benzema and Marcelo were the players that went to the event to show what will be the second kit that the team will wear in the Champions League. An orange shirt, which the club has never used before, and about which Benzema said: “I love it. It is different from the blue or white and it looks really good”. “It is a very bright colour and hopefully it will give us energy and the strength to win the Champions League matches”, said Marcelo, who also spoke about the next league match: “The match against Villarreal is tough but we are looking forward to getting a win”. Bale, in his first official act as a Real Madrid player since his unveiling, said: “It is an honour to be at Real Madrid and I have been welcomed very well. Everyone wants to win trophies with this club and the team wants to win all the titles that are up for grabs”.

Marcelo and Benzema were the first to speak and welcomed their new teammate, Gareth Bale. “We are very happy that he is with Real Madrid. He is an excellent player and I think he will bring a lot to the team. He is nice and friendly. He is an excellent player and I hope he’ll help us win a lot of matches”, said the French forward, while Brazilian defender added: “He’s normal, like us. He’s a great player and I have the pleasure of being on the same team as him. I haven’t trained with him yet but I’m sure he’ll do well. To be at Real Madrid, you have to”.

The Welshman thanked his new teammates for their kind words and spoke about how things have gone since his move to Real Madrid became official: “The truth is that as soon as I arrived I went off with Wales but it is an honour to be at Real Madrid and I have been welcomed very well. When I met Ronaldo, it was amazing. He is very nice. He welcomed me very warmly. I felt very welcome, I’m looking to getting out onto the field to play and help my teammates”.

About his form and when he will make his debut with the team, he said: “I feel good. I did two tough training sessions last week and played for a while with Wales. I’m getting better. I’m behind my teammates on the fitness side but I hope to catch up quickly. I have spoken with Ancelotti but about things will stay between me and him. I’ll play wherever he wants to play me on the field and give 100%. We’ll have to wait until Saturday’s match to see if I’m in the squad or not, but I’m looking forward to it”.

When asked whether the team’s style of play fits with his footballing profile and about the pressure at Real Madrid, the Welshman said: “That is one of the big reasons that I wanted to come to Real Madrid. The playing style has a big influence. I will give everything to win when I go out to the field. I think it’s an exciting time for the team. We all want to work hard to win every match and hopefully win all the titles on offer. When you’re a Real Madrid player the pressure is on to win every match and competition and we work very hard every day to achieve that”.

In reference to the chances of winning the Tenth, Bale said: “I learned how to say it. Everyone wants to win trophies with this club and the team wants to win all the titles that we are playing for”. “Our group is very difficult. To win the Champions League we have to beat all of the teams and we will give everything to get through the first phase”, said Benzema, while Marcelo was also very excited: “Every time we play in the Champions League we want to go all the way and win it. We know that is very difficult, every year we try and hopefully we will give the fans something to celebrate”.

The team has had a great start in the league and about that Benzema said: “It is true that we play with fast breaks and we have to be wary of counterattacks. All teams play against us at 100% and we have to manage the match well”. The Frenchman has been one of the key players in attack with his assists and goals and is very pleased with the way things are going: “I’m doing well, but the thing that should be stressed is that we are winning matches. That is the most important thing. I’m working hard and I hope to score lots of goals”. Regarding the importance of Real Madrid fans’ support, he said: “Come to the stadium and support us. We need your strength”.

In his speech, Marcelo said: “I am proud to be the third captain. It is a great responsibility and a great honour. We’re going to keep working hard to try to win every match and every trophy. We will give everything to put Real Madrid at the top”.

The Real Madrid defender also spoke about how his recovery from injury is going: “I’m getting better every day and hope to be back from the injury to help Real Madrid as soon as possible. At first we thought it was one thing but it turned out to be less serious and I hope to play again soon”. Finally, he spoke about how the team is going into Saturday’s match at El Madrigal: “We are doing well. The match against Villarreal is tough but we are looking forward to getting the win”.

The theme of the new 3rd kit campaign is actually “Real Energy. Real Madrid” not “Real Orange. Real Eyesore” as you might imagine.

rmstoreThe mothership also did a little photo pictorial at the Adidas store at the Santiago Bernabeu showing the new kits and the fans buying them. People were like “Erm…..it’s….nice. Hey, how about that transfer window?! Crazy, right?”

Their faces say it all.

Their faces say it all.

But leave it to Karim and Marcelo to make it all better with this picture. I love these two. That said, Karim, your hair is just a freaking disaster. (Also, are his shorts a wee bit tight? Looks like he accidentally put on some child sized ones).

It’s like synthetic food orange. Like Tang. Or Kraft American cheese slices. But if there’s a team in the world that’ll make me love them, it’d be this one…

Lol, it took me all day to figure it out! I stared at the stupid kits so long it gave me a headache 😛

    • Mehreh September 12, 2013 at 10:28 pm #

I’ve been calling it Kraft dinner/Mac and cheese orange. Spot on!

      • SR4ever September 12, 2013 at 10:58 pm #

        Great minds think alike!

I like orange…but a field of 10 men running around in pure orange???? Ummmmm…

Petition to make Iker/DLo the only all-orange man on the pitch per game pretty please! 😀

Benz!! It looks like there was a fire alarm in the middle of your haircut and you had to evacuate the building.

First time saw their new kit on RM’s website and was like ORANGE?! Like Barca’s shade of orange kit (esp. Messi!) but RM’s? Good thing I don’t have to see Kaka/Ozil wears that.

Hopes their orange kit bring them more wins in the future.

  5. Nalicia September 13, 2013 at 2:34 am #

OMG, I thought I was the only one who hated this kit! Orange in combination with reflector green shoes. Who the hell came up with that idea!!
Since most of them have a horrible fashion sense I’m not surprised they like it or are they forbidden to say what they truly think about it? I wonder how Xabi feels about them…he’s probably happy he’s injured right now!

  6. MissLadya September 13, 2013 at 7:26 am #

Hahahahaha! I really wish I could echo the general “wtf?” reaction to the new kits, but … I’m Dutch. All my life I’ve watched/supported players in all-orange kits, so I really don’t have an averse reaction to these. If Robben or Sneijder were still around they’d feel right at home! XD

    • ramoslove September 13, 2013 at 8:16 am #

I feel the same.. Sad part is the Dutch orange kits never won us anything… BUT I WILL STAY POSITIVE!
      Hup Holland, hala Madrid!

      • MissLadya September 13, 2013 at 9:07 am #

Through the good (WC 2010) and the bad (Euro 2012 … oh, the pain. Ruud … Edwin … Giovanni … Come baaaaaaaaack!), Nederland always and all the way!

Wellllll, we did win Euro ’88 wearing quite possibly THE most horrific orange kit in history, so maybe the uglier the better?

BUT HEY, at least we get to splatter the country with orange every two years! Orange flags! Orange streamers! Orange hagelslag! Orange shaving cream! Orange tompoezen! And, if the crazy old lady living behind me is still alive next year, am sure she’ll dye her Maltese orange again! Come on, don’t we all just love Oranjegekte? I don’t go all-out insane, but I do do shit like this to my pets:

        They LOVE it XD

        • ramoslove September 13, 2013 at 2:26 pm #

Arrghhh how much I’d give to have the old squad back that almost landed us the WC… Just come back already! Luckily we qualified for 2014… Maybe better luck this time?

It could also have been ruud gullits hair that did the job back then? That was pretty ugly aswell..

Ah the oranjegekte.. You can say alot about us dutchies, but we never lose hope at winning a big title someday!

I love all the fuss that comes with.. Me and my friends hold viewing parties and usually after a win it ends up with us running around in our orange gear blowing through our vuvuzela’s annoying the living crap outta everyone!
Probably the best story was one of my friends painted himself fully orange, but couldn’t get the paint off… Luckily we won so it wasn’t all for nothing!! Again, in this case “the uglier the better” :p
Maybe if we all look horrible we’ll win in brazil?

  7. Nalicia September 13, 2013 at 8:44 am #

I just had a vivid vision of Sese when he had that bleached-catastrophe on his head wearing the new kit. BOY, am I glad he got rid of that eyesore on time!

  8. jellyace September 13, 2013 at 8:56 am #

This is our karma for making fun of Barca’s Tequila Sunrise kits.

Is Real Madrid going to wear this Cheez Doodle kit in the match against Villarreal in their Yellow Submarine kit? Oh, my poor assaulted eyes!

    • Mehreh September 13, 2013 at 11:49 am #

only for CL games. so, not often, but it sure does make me miss that green i didn’t love last year.

      • jellyace September 14, 2013 at 12:54 am #

Or the red kit of the year before, which I liked.

        I suspect that:
        a) adidas kit designers are lazy and have boring dreams compared to Nike kit designers
        b) adidas is testing the theory that the Real Madrid brand can sell anything
        c) The Real Madrid messenger is the one who gives approval for kit designs and he keeps thinking “safety, safety, safety…”

  9. Natalie September 13, 2013 at 9:20 am #

i actually went with carrots when i saw these!! At the positive side, they are not as bad as Barcelona’s tequila sunset kits, those changed colour!!!

  10. Phédre September 13, 2013 at 11:15 am #

Well isn’t that so sweet, they’re honoring our Crispy by making a kit that’s inspired by his tan! I guess the white and blue kits were too gorgeous so they needed to tone it down. So we’re going to be pumpkins in the CL?

  11. Anna September 13, 2013 at 1:12 pm #

am I one of the only people who doesn’t think the kits are so bad? I actually quite like that the kit this year is a simple design with bright colours… saying that, it’s annoying me that the shorts look a slightly different colour in some pictures (am I imagining that?). I also think the orange is going to be unflattering on a few of our boys…
Karim, you’ve been torturing us long enough now, don’t you think it’s time for the hair to go? The last picture really shows his hair at the worst angle

  12. Katie Ann September 13, 2013 at 4:56 pm #

The warm-ups that go with this kit are a kind of charcoal color with the orange stripes… The local Adidas outlet had piles of warm-ups with that color scheme a few years back, so pretty much every runner I know has them. I have them. Just need to slap the crest on now, heh.

  13. Lily September 15, 2013 at 4:43 am #

I don’t know which is better – the first picture where it looks like Little Benz is at half mast, or the close up where his hair is at half mast. I think this orange is a least better than the old sunburst Barcelona uniforms.

  14. Jules September 16, 2013 at 12:26 am #

Late to the game, but wow is that color awful on Bale. It somehow manages to both wash him out and give him a crazy uneven floridness. Are there now different fit options for shorts as well as shirts? Benz’s are def snugger than the others, and even the leg circumference and drape look different. His hair is just a shanda.
