Who is Casanova flirting with now?!

I think he’s admiring Lady Edith’s bouncin’ behavin’ hair and headband. Smart boy! Work kept me away from here yet again today, so this is a catch up post.

Benz & Angel rejoined the squad along with Casado for the last training before tomorrow’s match with Elche.

The super exciting news (at least for me) is that The Baby was called up for the match tomorrow (along with Fabio). WHOOO HOOOOO!

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Diego Lopez and Jesus.
Defenders: Varane, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Coentrao, Carvajal, Arbeloa and Nacho.
Midfielders: Khedira, Casemiro, Modric, Di Maria, Isco and Illarra.
Forwards: Ronaldo, Benzema, Jese and Morata

Carlo had his presser today and you guys, I think we broke him. It took Mou a couple of years to get to the  “stubbly exhausted tracksuit” look. It took Carlo like 3 months. Ouch. It reminds me of finals week at uni. Even the biggest fashion plate on campus would show up at the dining hall after an all nighter in a sweatsuit, with unwashed hair and eye bags. He’s very Carlhobo, no? Derelicte!

Ancelotti: “We have to be careful with Elche, we had the experience in Villarreal”
by Alberto Navarro

“We are facing a team who are very keen, and playing us is a big motivation for them”, the Real Madrid coach said

293-75-_HES8443Thumb,22Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media the day before the Liga match against Elche. The Italian coach, who confirmed that “Isco will play”, analysed match in the Martínez Valero stadium: “It will be difficult and we have to be careful with this match because we already had the experience with Villarreal and against Elche will be the same. We are facing a team who are very keen, who won the league last season and playing us is a big motivation for them. We have to concentrate and have as much character and desire to win as them”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_AncelottiThe Italian coach also talked about the opening minutes of each match, when his team has been letting in goals: “We have talked about this with the players and we agree that we need to start matches with more intensity. We have always had problems early on and then we improve as the minutes go by. Against Getafe we had a bit of bad luck, but the team reacted well. Our aim in the Martinez Valero Stadium is to start better”.

7-667-_HES8434Thumb,8With regards to how la Liga has gone so far, he said: “The biggest surprise is Atlético, who are playing very well; they have won all their matches and had a great Super Cup final against Barcelona, who are always very competitive and play great football. Atlético have a lot of character and personality, like their coach who already demonstrated that when he was a player. We are improving and I am happy with the work because my team want to improve in each training session. We had a good match against Getafe, even though there was not much continuity. That is something we have to improve on”.

389-639-_HES8476Thumb,8When asked about the defenders, the Madrid coach said: “We have Varane and Coentrão back, but we will have to see if they will play. The most important thing is that everyone has recovered very well and there is a lot of competition, like for all the out-field positions. Marcelo will be ready for Saturday”. When asked specifically about the French international, he said: “He has a great talent. We are very lucky to have him in our team because he is the future of Real Madrid. It is difficult to say who will start because there is a lot of competition. My view is that they are all motivated. He will play matches; that is certain”. He also praised Carvajal: “He is a very good player, who has started the season very well: confidently, and with a good mental and physical attitude. Match by match he is improving and as a reserve player he is very eager and is also under more pressure than the others. I am pleased with him”.

427-638-_HES8405Thumb,22He was clear on the subject of Bale’s injury,: “He did not have anything serious. He had a small problem and today he has done individual work. He will be available on Saturday, not in the match against Elche. He played 60 minutes against Villarreal and played 30 against Galatasaray. He just has small problem, but not a muscle injury. I do not know what happened, but the important thing is that there is no risk if I decide to put him on the pitch on Saturday against Atlético”.

873-986-_HES8469Thumb,8Benzema and Khedira are two more names that Ancelotti spoke about. On the subject of the Frenchman he said: “I do not need to talk to him because both matches that he played were good. It is important for an attacking player to score goals, but I am pleased with his work and he is motivated”. On the subject of the German midfielder he said: “We are playing with two pivots to have more balance on the pitch because we are very attacking. He is doing it very well and he gives the team a lot of balance in the centre of the pitch”.

681-882-_HES8403Thumb,8Asked about Isco’s great form and possible comparisons with Zidane he said: “Comparing him with Zidane is not bad. They have many things in common, but this is more a question for Zidane than for me. He still says no”. And on the sale of Özil he was clear: “He is a great player and has a great quality, but in these two last matches we have played without him we have not had any problems when it comes to scoring goals. The team is very powerful in attack without Özil. In fact, we have scored ten goals in two matches”.

On the subject of pre-match concentrations in hotels, he said: “It is better for the players to be at home with their children. They prefer being with their children than being in front of a computer. Being with people you love is better for helping you concentrate. From time to time we will do that sort of concentration, but the players send a lot of time together and it is important that they are with their family to stay relaxed”.

961-479-_HES8494Thumb,8When asked if a coach should adapt to a system of play which is already in place or if the coach should impose it, he said: “That is not easy to answer. A coach has to adapt to his players’ characteristics. A coach has an idea of how to play which he puts to the team, taking into account the players’ characteristics. It was surprising to see the Rayo match where Barcelona scored on the counterattack and lost possession after so many matches”. Finally, on the position of Toril and Real Madrid Castilla, he said: “Alberto is a very good coach. He had to replace a lot of very good players, who are now playing for us or in the first division. Everyone trusts in his work and I think that they will improve”.

There was a very special guest at Valdebebas today and it was Il Fenemeno!  Yep, Ronaldo was in the house and of course he hung out with Cristiano Ronaldo (or as I like to call them Original Recipe and Extra Crispy). Ronaldo had some lovely things to say about Cris:

Ronaldo: “Everyone gets excited about seeing Cristiano play”
by Alberto Navarro

The former Madrid player visited the Real Madrid Football City, watched the last training session before the Elche match, spoke to members of the Madrid squad and finally visited the first team residence

Ronaldo Nazário da Lima visited the Real Madrid Football City. The former Madrid player, who spent five seasons with the club, winning 2 Ligas, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 Spanish Super Cup, watched the last training session before the match against Elche, greeted the members of the Madrid squad, spoke at length with several of his former team mates and finally visited the first team residence. “Cristiano is very good. He has become a much more rounded player here and everyone gets excited about watching him play the way he does here with Real Madrid. Coming here has been good for him. He was already scoring a lot of goals for Manchester United, but here he scores a lot more and he has developed a taste for being a goal-scorer. He is a very complete player”, he said about the fifth highest goal-scorer in the club’s history.

The Brazilian also spoke about how excited he was to be back in Spain’s capital: “I was here for five years and I am always happy to come back. I still have a house in Madrid. I spent many years training here and I am always excited about coming back. There are a lot of young players in the squad and others who I played alongside and who I have good memories of, like Iker, Sergio, the coach, who I was with at Milan, and obviously Zidane. I miss being with them and that is why I have come to see them”.

Regarding Carlo Ancelotti’s squad’s good start to the season and the coaching methods of the Italian, who he worked with at Milan, he said: “The team looks very good to me. They have started well and Ancelotti’s influence will show. He will make the team play his way. He has a lot of experience and he is a coach who is very easy to get along with. The players like him to be their friend”.

Finally, on the subject of his future challenges, he revealed: “Right now I am working so that the World Cup in Brazil is the best ever. I have a lot of work, but I am very pleased to be doing it. We are all very excited about the next World Cup”.

Is that a Miami Dolphins helmet that I spy in Carlo’s office?  Guess that’s a souvenir from the pre-season. (Additional training shots via GFSports)

Looking forward to watching the match tomorrow (if I get out of work early like I’m supposed to). Hala Madrid!

UPDATED: I totally forgot to add this adorable picture that The Baby posted on his Facebook today saying he was glad to be called up.

I might have lost my mind a little when I saw that original recipe was there today. I LOVE HIM!!!!
All time favorite player, hands down. OMG. DIED. I MISS HIM SO MUCH!

I see he’s put on weight again 😦

I’m so happy to have Varane back. I hope he comes back and is his amazing self!

I’ve heard original recipe talk about thyroid trouble. Personally, if I’d spent my entire life being incredibly active, then retiring, I don’t know how I’d adjust my food intake to account for slowing down. Food is really good!

He does. But he’d lost some weight (and looked good) on Brazil’s version of Biggest Loser. I just know it’s been something he’s struggled with, so it saddens me

My two great joys: flotsam and jetsam seem to be in fine working order, despite carlito’s lack of caring; and the baby giraffe posting the best selfies on the entire RM squad. Not too often, genuine smile, no hand gestures. Kid is mature beyond his years.

I miss Baby V so much. I was hoping one of our young’uns would win the Bravo Award this year so I’m glad Varane is coming back. I do think Isco has the greatest chance of winning it, based on his recent performance but I’m hoping Varane (and Morata and Jese) could challenge him.

When I first read the title of the article about Ronaldo and Cris through the RM widget, I actually thought Cristiano was talking about himself and I was kind of preparing for a bazillion comments from my culé friends (it is unfortunate that I know only a handful of madridistas irl). And then it turns out to be Il Fenomeno. HAHAHA. I don’t think I have ever seen Il Fenomeno play for our veterans team before, has he? If he hasn’t I can’t wait for him to do… and Becks too.

And Fabio on the backs of Cassanova and Lady Edith was smiling and was like thinking ‘he’s doing it again…’

Carlo’s raised eyebrow always cracks me up.

      Doesn’t it?! I wonder if he’s a fan of The Rock 😉
