Updated: Mazel Tov! Abby Wambach & Sarah Huffman Tie The Knot

9 Oct

1008-abby-wambach-sarah-huffman-espys-3In awesome news, USWNT rock star Abby Wambach has married her longtime girlfriend and Western New York Flash teammate Sarah Huffman according to TMZ. The wedding, which took place this past Saturday at a schmantzy resort in Hawaii, was attended by close friends and family, including some of Abby’s national teammates. Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan supplied some awesome pictures on Instagram including video of them cliff diving. bafe50a62e0f11e3bad822000a9f3047_6

Holy crap! It must be said, Sydney’s body is BANGING. Not that Alex’s isn’t but wowzarama! You can see why she was chosen for this year’s ESPN: The Body Issue.

But back to the happy couple. I’m absolutely delighted for Abby and Sarah (although J-9 is probably crying into her pint right now about this!) I look forward to the day that marriage equality is universal and homophobia isn’t hanging like a spectre over the sports world (as well as the world in general).

Long and happy life together, ladies!

Updated: Abby tweeted about an hour ago to thank everyone for their warm wishes and confirmed the wedding.

They’ve been shacked up together for ages, guess it was just a matter of time.

My cousin had lived with her significant other for years – then they decided to get married before it was legal here in Washington. I asked her if she was going to do another wedding – the place they had their first wedding was awesome – but she said no they just got to the courthouse before someone changed their minds!

Good idea. I had friends who got married in the very short window in California in 2008 and I knew some others who waited only to have Prop 8 roll in.
