Thursday Training, Sanitas Clinic, Morata Speaks & Lilian Thuram Lecture

798-465-_HEL5451Thumb,22Hey all – much to talk about today but I’m just totally wiped out from work. My apologies. The team trained today outside with the exception of Fabio who is recovering from his ankle injury and Cris & Pepe who stayed inside.

In the training video, Marcelo was adorable (as usual) while Luka & Gareth gamboled like puppies.

It’s funny that they chose to feature the Basque boys Xabi & Illara on the same day that watishista Blue Beta sent me this picture on Twitter. Perfect timing!

BYf4GYMCIAA1OKPIllara along with Lady Edith, Casanova and Carvajal hosted a clinic today sponsored by Sanitas. 30 people invited by the company trained with the players, toured the facilities and got autographs/photos.

King of the Muppet Babies, Alvaro Morata, took part in a publicity event with Atleti’s Filipe Luis and long distance runner Chema Martinez at Torre Espacio. Morata did an interview.

Morata: “My time will come, I am just thinking about enjoying myself at this club and with our fans”
by Alberto Navarro

“We are doing well and if we keep going like this I’m sure we’ll be fighting for all of the titles”, said the Real Madrid forward

Alvaro Morata was accompanied by Atlético Madrid player Filipe Luís and athlete Chema Martinez for an Adidas publicity event at Torre Espacio, the fourth tallest skyscraper in Spain. The Real Madrid forward spoke about his team’s last match against Juventus and about how the Whites’ are doing: “We still need to mathematically seal qualification for the next round in the Champions League, but we got a good result at a tough stadium to visit. We are doing well and if we carry on like this I’m sure that we can close the gap in the league and fight for all of the titles on offer”.

_VCM3439ThumbIn reference to his personal situation in the squad, he was clear: “I’m not at all disappointed. Last year I played about 17 matches and this season I’ve played in nine already. I think I’ll end up playing more than last year and anything that means improving is very good. I’m young and there is no need to rush things because I’m at one of the best teams in the world. My time will come. I’m working hard, and I am just thinking about enjoying myself at this club and with our fans”.

Real Madrid’s ex-academy player also had words of praise for Gareth Bale: “We are very happy with him. I see him train every day and he is more than settled with the team. He proves that he is one of the best players in the world out on the pitch and I am sure that he is going to be important to help us win titles”.

1010-29-_VCM3430Thumb,8When asked about the recent comments by the Croatian coach of Austria Vienna, Nenad Bjelica, in which he ruled out Real Madrid as contenders for this season’s Champions League, he said: “We are still in the group stage and there are a lot of quality teams. The knockout rounds are another story and there are more factors at play. If you slip up against any of the teams, you could get knocked out of the Champions League”.

51-12-_VCM3497Thumb,8About Barcelona player Alves’ comments in which he said that Atlético are their rivals for the La Liga title, he revealed: “We have to take it one match at a time and keep working as we are. There have been a lot of changes over the last year and we are gradually improving. I’m sure we’ll be in the fight for all of the titles”. About the possibility of Diego Costa being called up for Spain, he said: “He is showing that he is a top class striker and if he goes to the World Cup I’m sure he will do very well and will try to bring the World Cup home again for Spain”.

178-134-_VCM3496Thumb,36Finally, about the importance of fitness for matches, he said: “We always try to work on it and we do exercises to work on speed in training, depending on each player’s position. We normally train in studded boots on the pitch, but there are times, like in the gym when we do other physical preparation, that we have to use other equipment”.

Well, my eyes are crossing so I’m going to wrap this up and try to actually get some sleep (I should do some work but…). Anyhow, if any of you are attending the Lilian Thuram lecture tomorrow at NYU, get in touch via the HB & HB Gmail account (on the About Us page). A group of us are going and I’m guessing we’ll probably grab a beer or something afterward. Can’t promise I’ll be out long but it would be so nice to put some names with faces!

somehow, morata turning 21 has helped me feel a little less bad about finding him so wildly attractive. it doesn’t hurt that he seems like a really sweet, genuine, hardworking guy. and he even said something nice about diego costa? love this guy.
