Just When You Think Things Are Going Smoothly…

16 Nov

695-735-KHEDIRA_188119296Thumb,0After a collision with Andrea Pirlo in Friday’s Germany/Italy friendly, Sami seemed in a lot of pain. At the time, everyone just assumed it was a minor knock. Ugh. I wish it was that simple. I woke up this morning to the incredibly crap news that not only is it serious, but he’ll be out for the rest of the season and may possibly miss the World Cup. ARGH.

And this, people, is why I (we all) loathe international duty. Sami had MCL & ACL surgery performed today in Augsburg by Dr. Ulrich Boenisch. It was supervised by RM doctors Jesús Olmo and Francisco Morate. The surgery was, thankfully, successful and Sami will spend the next 3 weeks in Augsburg following a very specific recovery program.

Teammates and other players were quite to send supportive notes via social media, which was really nice. Fans did too. However, some fans, well, let’s put it this way, I was in a rage at the some of the over the top ridiculous crap that was being spewed. I had a big rant planned for here and then I just thought “Fuck it. Why bother? I’m not going to dignify these people by even mentioning them. It’s not going to do any good and it’s not going to change anything.” So I’m just sending good thoughts toward Sami. A much better way to spend my energy.

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

I said it before, but OMG seriously whenever injury hits us its freaking massive! Always with surgery and long lasting recovery periods, and then the player cruelly gets another injury right after.

ACL surgery? Rest of the season? He’s been one of the most consistent starters of our team this season 😦 Just when Xabi comes back and I look forward to the revival of their awesome partnership in midfield, this happens.

Poor Sami, I heard he’d be out the rest of the season. but the WC too?! Please no.
    Get well soon,

Damn it, we don’t have many injuries, but when it rains, it pours. Poor Sami, wishing him a quick recovery.

Get well Sami. I am sure he wants to go to world cup, let alone finish season with RM on a good note. Hope it is a speedy recovery

pobrecito. i’m glad he’s already had surgery so he can start his rehab quickly. the social media support for him from his RM and german NT teammates was very sweet. it’s so sweet to watch them love each other up.
