Thursday Training, Audi Delivers & A Good Deed

121-492-_VCM0049Thumb,36Hope all American watishistas are having a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’ve been up since it was barely light out cooking like a fiend. One Thanksgiving dinner down and casseroles in the oven baking as I head off to another one! I’m so thankful today for family, friends, the good life I have and all you wonderful people – you make every day better.

The team got right back to work today after yesterday’s romp over Galatasary in the Champions League. They’re preparing for Saturday’s match against Valladolid.

The boys had something else to be thankful for today because it’s the annual giving of the Audis. This year included all sorts of racing around in the cars, thoroughbred horses and wee jockeys. The article and photos will explain more but two observations: How on earth is Luka going to see over the steering wheel in that SUV? and OF COURSE IKER’S LEATHER JACKET IS BROWN.

The event, which marks the tenth year of the German car manufacturer being linked with the Whites, was held at the Madrid Hippodrome and was attended by club president Florentino Pérez

Audi delivered the Real Madrid first team’s official team cars at the Zarzuela Hippodrome in Madrid. The Whites’ first team players watched a live horse race and then drove some of the manufacturer’s cars before receiving the keys to their own. The event was attended Florentino Pérez, Real Madrid President; José Ángel Sánchez, the club’s Director General; Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations; Guillermo Fadda, Director of Audi Spain; Ludger Fretzen, CEO of Volkswagen-Audi Spain; and Daniel Weissland, Audi’s head of Southern Europe. The German brand is celebrating its tenth anniversary as the Whites’ sponsor, with the agreement having started in 2003.

Real Madrid and Audi celebrated their 10-year-long agreement with an event held at the Zarzuela Hippodrome in Madrid. Following their arrival in the enclosure, the first team players got to see 11 thoroughbred horses up close as well as to meet and talk with the jockeys. Then, the squad witnessed the thoroughbreds and jockeys in action in a live horse race.

The players took centre stage for the second part of the event. They were divided into two groups to go to different parts of the hippodrome. Some of the players took part in off-road tests while others drove on the quattro circuit, where they were in cars that went up and down various ramps, a tilting platform, bridges and other obstacles.

Cars were handed over to the players to conclude the day. Guillermo Fadda, Director of Audi Spain, was the first to speak: “In 2003 Real Madrid and Audi signed an agreement that has become a reference point for sports sponsorship deals. A worldwide success story”. Florentino Pérez also highlighted the connection between the two organisations: “The connection between Real Madrid and Audi remains solid and strong. We have 10 years sharing a culture of excellence and the pursuit of perfection. We have been able to secure an alliance between the two organisations which, as leaders in their fields, aspire for the best against any competitor. This partnership has been a great success”. To finish of the event and following both speeches and the exchange of gifts, the 23 players and Carlo Ancelotti were given their new vehicles for the 2013/2014 season.

There’s also video here in which Arbeloa & Xabi are looking particularly fine! (Additional photos and video via the wonderful GF Sports who I give thanks for every day!)

Audi wasn’t the only one giving. The Real Madrid Foundation teamed up with the Food Bank and Seur Foundation to sponsor a food collection. Last Friday, 2000 tickets to the RM/Galatasary game were made available to fans who donated food to the drive.

All the tickets went the first day but fans continued to donate for the 5 days of the initiative. In the end a total of 11,151 kilos of food (about 24,584 pounds) was donated! That’s wonderful!

Have a great Thanksgiving and also Hanukkah to those who are celebrating. And now I’m off for some pumpkin pie.

Happy thanksgiving to all! Yup, I’d like an Audi for Thanksgiving, too!
I’m a bit surprised that Crissy didn’t get a sports car but got an SUV instead. It’s gotta be the papa on him.
