A Ten Man Victory

1 Dec

Gareth Bale

Ehem, who are CL group leaders? We are! Who’s made their way into the last 16? We have! Still without Commander Cris on the pitch, our boys banded together to provide an amazing, 10 man victory for the Bernabeu crowd. There was lots of pretty to be seen on the pitch that night, pretty football skills & pretty shirt removal skills (Hey there, Xabi). Check. It. Out.

It’s too bad they don’t do post red card besos too, huh?

Cristiano may not have been fit to do damage against Galatasaray, but his presence was huge…literally. The man was everywhere BUT the pitch, on signs, masks, banners, and watching in the stadium.

In addition to the fans’ banners, the team had one of their own, for the Philippines & the victims of the typhoon that struck the country three weeks ago. Someone correct me if I’m off, Google translates the message as “You are never alone, Philippines.”

The match was off to a slow start, we had early chances from G-Money and Jese, but we needed something to inspire us to finally put away some goals…..nothing more inspirational than someone getting kicked out of the game! Bulut was going for goal and Sergio took him down. The red card was harsh, but Sese was still on his way out after just 26 minutes of play. Not only were we down to ten men, but Jese had to be called off so Nacho could come in. Boo.

That face says it all!

Ten minutes after that red card and our fabulosity had kicked in. It looks like G-Money’s fangirling over Cris has paid off, because one major Crissy inspired, free kick goal that scored. Gahhh it was B-E-A-utiful.

“Yeah, he got that from me.”

Bulut equalized immediately after G-Money’s free kick, but when you follow something so beautiful, no one really pays it any mind..right? 😉 Six minutes into the 2nd half, we were back at it and who would’ve thought it would be Arbeloa making his way onto the score sheet?? Arbie met Di Maria’s cross and put that thang away, which made Xabi very happy.

Dorky, cheerleader, Xabi is right up there with drunk Xabi.

In the 63rd minute, Di Maria and Arbeloa switched things up. Arbie served up the assist & Di Maria supplied the power, scoring the 3rd goal of the night.

Finishing off the match was our magical little Isco. He zipped around Galatasaray’s defense and snuck in our 4th and final goal in the 80th minute.

Time for the nekkie! Get ready for some manly fur action from Xabi!

These boys are too good to us.

I LOVE the last bit in this post! LUFF IT! 😀

I practically squealed and danced around when I saw that banner from UEFA. As a Madridista who lived through an earthquake and a typhoon (2 typhoons actually) in a span of 2 weeks (seriously, Mother Earth?), seeing this message from no less than a Madrid match was pure bliss.

I practically shoved it in my Cule friends’ faces that it was during a Madrid match and not theirs. I am evil, arite? XD (sorry hehehe)

Plus the fact that we got 4-0 and saw ecstatic Xabi made my day.

I’m expecting Madrid to do this more often (especially with the recent results of La Liga, too!).

Akemi, I am glad you are OK, and have survived what I hope is the worst to ever befall the Visayas. I, too was thrilled to see the Philippine banner! But didn’t all the Champions League matches on those two days display it? At any rate, I am still thrilled. And soooo glad we won the match and got to see Xabi’s strawberry patch!

BTW, we in the unaffected areas are still gathering and sending relief goods, but now the packets are more for rebuilding and kitchen starter sets, school supplies, toys, etc.

I was there! Let me tell you, the atmosphere was something else. It’s always special in CL games, but on Wednesday it was a little extra special. You should have heard the uproar at SeSe’s red card (even though it was somewhat deserved, what can I say, we’re a pretty damn loyal bunch), and then G-Money’s free went in, it was just epic.

BTW, G-Money = priceless! Whoever came up with that one, hats off.

Ooh I’m jealous! I would’ve loved to have celebrated that free kick goal in the stadium.

Gareth and Bale just weren’t working for me, the man needed a nickname 😉

I love that Sergio practically shoves Bale and Pepe out of the way to get his kiss from Iker. 🙂

Ha! He was making it obvious that he’s got to work for the goodies!

When I watched the match, I remember thinking that Arbie must be channeling Cristiano or something, because he was unusually attack minded all the second half. I didn’t know that our trustworthy defender could even be that good at attacking!

Great game overall, and the pictures in this post, yummy…

    Much love from the Maldives.
