Training, More Nominations, Checking in with Sami, and a Familiar Face

4 Dec

Methinks Sergio is bitter about the comments I made about his hand gestures yesterday….I can see the anger in his eyes and the indecision in his hands. You’re still my favorite Pony, Sese!

We’ve got ballerinos on the right and twerkers, dropping it low, on the left! The second training of the week was held today with everyone out on the field, except for Sami, Coentrao, Varane, and Cristiano who’s on his last day of vacay – more about him later.

It’s not time for The Tishies! yet, but in the meantime there are many lesser awards that our boys are nominated for. 😉 The nominees for UEFA’s Team of the Year have been released and four of our boys have made the list. You can vote for Cris, Isco, G-Money, & Sergio, among many others here. The picture they have for Zlatan is perfect. Winners will be announced on January 15th.

Sergio, Marcelo, Pepe, & Varane have also been shortlisted for the 2013 FIFA FIFPro World XI. Sergio and Marcelo were chosen for last year’s World XI, let’s see if all four of our boys can make it this year!

One last nomination for Marcelo, he’s up for the 2013 Samba Gold. The award goes to the best Brazilian footballer in Europe and Marcelo is included amongst 30 other nominees. Vote here.

Cristiano received an extra two days off this week and spent some time in Madeira with family. He shared this shot yesterday and I was shocked to see little Cris Jr. included in the photo. Normally, we blur his face out when we post pics of little Cris, but since his dad posted the pic, we all get to enjoy that adorable face. We’ve seen the little guy with Papa Cris after the most recent international friendlies, so it seems maybe Cris isn’t so strict with hiding him away anymore. I hope this means he’ll share more family/father & son pics with us soon! According to Marca, Cristiano wasn’t just in town to see family, he was setting up plans to open his museum in Funchal, his hometown.

How nice is it to see this guy?? Sami checked in via Facebook, to update us all on his recovery, he shared this message:

First of all, i would like to thank my fans and friends for the many great wishes. You give me a lot of power and hope! Also, i am very grateful for the support from my club Real Madrid and from the DFB. I know that everything they do isn’t a matter of course! Here is a photo of Dr. Olmo (doctor from Real Madrid) and Dr. Boenisch – 2 great doctors with amazing character.             Thank you both for the great support.

Sami is currently working on his recovery at the Eden-Reha clinic in Donaustauf. Word is he’ll be paying a visit to the team at the start of the new year, then will return to Germany for more recovery, and eventually make his way back to Madrid for the final stages of recovery.

A couple of small interviews from Marca – Morata spoke about how he’s making his way in the team and the Mister talked about everyone’s favorite subject…Cristiano vs. Messi.

Real Madrid forward, Álvaro Morata stated today that he is “only” thinking about winning with his club, adding that he is “convinced” that he will gradually earn a more prominent role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The Real academy graduate offered an interview to Sportium News in which he said he was sure he will be given the opportunity to shine under Ancelotti, even though the coach has to date opted to use him more in a substitute’s role than first-choice.

“I’m only thinking about winning with Real Madrid. I’m happy in this team. I’ll gradually cement my place in the starting XI. I’m sure of that. My time hasn’t yet come.

“I played seventeen first team games last season and I now feel much more important within the squad. My goal is to continue improving. I’ve very young and I have a long way to go,” he said.

“I’m privileged to share a dressing room with some of the best players in the world. Training with them everyday helps you to improve a lot. It’s like studying a Masters degree from the best club in the history of football. I think that I’ve stepped up to the plate every time I’ve been call on to play. Mourinho and Toril taught me to fight with all my heart every day to break into the team and I can feel that Ancelotti believes in me,” he added.

One of Morata’s footballing role models is striker Raúl González, who he said he tries to imitate because he considers him Real Madrid and Spain’s best striker of all time.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti claims he would turn down the chance to sign FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi because he already has Cristiano Ronaldo.

“If I could sign one player for Real Madrid, it wouldn’t be Messi, I’d rather reinforce another position”, Ancelotti told Italian broadcaster Radio Capital. “We have Cristiano, who needs Messi? God gave him [Ronaldo] a special gift”.

However, Ancelotti did joke that the capital outfit might be interested in bringing Messi to the club should Barca decide to sell the Argentine.

“If Barca sell Messi, they should call us”, he said.

And finally, our familiar faces! Doesn’t it seem like soooo long ago that these two were on our bench? Ugh, I miss these smiles. Karankinky (I miss writing that) gave a little interview and spoke with Marca about how much he learned from Mou. *sniffles*

While he is just getting into the swing of things at the helm of Middlesbrough, Aitor Karanka was happy to talk to TV programme ‘Jugones’ about his time at Real Madrid and his relationship with José Mourinho.

“I was surprised when he first called me. We didn’t know each other at all, but he told me I would be part of the family. Mourinho doesn’t believe in falseness. People said there were problems in the dressing room, that the players couldn’t stand the sight of him… But then Özil gave him his shirt the other day”.

“He said ‘I’m going to make you face the press one day, that way you’ll learn’… I thought he was half-joking. Sometimes he’d question something I’d said. ‘I’ve got to do it your way, I’m your number two”, I’d retort”.

Mou wanted to extend their partnership: “One day I walked into training and he looked right at me, asking me why I hadn’t replied to his messages… I pulled out my phone and the message said ‘if we go there, do you want to come with me?’ At first I said of course I would, but it would have been a different league, in a new country…”

“I learned something every minute under Mourinho. He’s always three or four steps ahead, like at Old Trafford, when he brought on Modric after Nani was sent off”, Karanka raved.

Nevertheless, Mou failed in his ultimate goal: “He was a very demanding coach, but the results didn’t follow. When you have a personality like his, these things happen.”

I’m just going to swoon over Karanka and Mou. I know very few of us liked Mourinho, but I still love him. So excuse my sniffles…

I thought it was going to be easier to look at old pics of them as time went on, but it’s not. 😦

No, it’s not at all. I will fully admit to watching Chelsea matches for glimpses of Mou and little Rui…

I’m excited about Cris’s museum! I was in Madeira last month and was disappointed there was so little on display about him, however just about everyone I met said they were his cousin! I did visit his shop and bought a necklace which I believe was fairly classy (!). Madeira is beautiful so I’m glad to have an excuse to go back.

I was in Madeira a couple of weeks ago…..absolutely beautiful city, but was also surprised that there wasn’t a lot of Christiano memorabilia anywhere! Was also in Malaga, and saw a sign towards Camas, but I restrained myself…..

Don’t restrain yourself, that’s for the courts to decide! We’re counting on you!
