Last Training of The Week, Ancelotti Loves Xabi, Zizou Loves Cris, & Hello Spandex!

6 Dec

“You think that will make the Watishistas love you even more?”

Booty stretches? Check. Last training session complete? Check, Check. Hello weekend & hello Copa del Rey! The boys have prepared all week and tomorrow they’ll take on Olimpic de Xativa at the La Murta Stadium.

With Cristiano suspended from the CdR match and Xabi not called up, Ancelotti had 18 players available to him and the list is as follows:

Goal keepers: Casillas, Diego López and Jesús
Defenders: Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Arbeloa, Carvajal, Marcelo and Nacho.
Midfielders: Bale, Casemiro, Modric, Di María, Isco and Illarra.
Forwards: Benzema, Jesé and Morata.

At today’s presser, Xabi and competition within the team were the big topics.

Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the press room at Real Madrid City the day before the Whites’ Copa del Rey opener. The Italian coach, who confirmed that “Xabi Alonso will not be in the squad because he can’t play on artificial turf because of the injury that he had”, spoke about the match against Olímpic Xàtiva: “We are starting in another competition and we have to do well because we are playing against a team that have high hopes and so do all of their fans. We are going to try to play well and stay focused. We’re not used to playing in that type of pitch, but that’s fine. All the players are focused on the match and it is an important competition for us. Last year we did well in this competition.”

When asked about the starting eleven, he said: “I am not going to say what it will be because I’ll decide that tomorrow. We’re going to play with all of the available players. The only one that will not be traveling is Xabi Alonso because it isn’t good for him to play on artificial turf because of the injury that he had. Training this week has been good and I will not have trouble in putting out a good side. We can only pick 16 players for tomorrow. We have the odd injury but we haven’t called up any Castilla players.”

In reference to the possibility that the players that have played less so far this season will play, he said: “They have a chance of playing, but they do not have to prove anything. I am confident in what they can do. It is true that they have not played much and some are surprised about it, but you have to think that Jesé and Morata have to compete with the likes of Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Casemiro with Modric, Xabi Alonso and Illarra. It isn’t easy. They understand and know that I am confident in them.”

When specifically asked about Morata and the possibility of him leaving in the January transfer window, he was emphatic: “He has not asked me directly, but he is an important player for us for this season and he is staying here. He is happy and if at the end of the season he does not feel that way, then we can think about loaning him out next year. Right now he is staying here to help us and to have a good season.”

When asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness, he said: “He is fine. He is training and will play on Tuesday without any problems.” When asked about individual awards and why he did not attend the LFP (Professional Football League) Awards, he said: “I was invited, but I had another commitment.Individual awards are important for a player and their career.”

Regarding the importance of Xabi Alonso’s renewal, he was clear: “Alonso’s renewal is not a priority. The priority is to keep playing well and winning until Christmas. His renewal is important for everyone. We are waiting for his decision. He is thinking about what to do and is relaxed about it. He will decide very soon. They are talking about it and it is not a priority. Keeping playing well and winning is the priority though.”

Varane and Bale were two of the players that the Italian coach mentioned by name. “He is following an individual training program because we need the knee to be problem free and on Wednesday he will start with strength work to be ready for the first matches in January,” is what he said about the Frenchman. Regarding the Welshman, he said: “He is in better shape than when he arrived. His only problem was fitness and he has adapted very well to the team. He is happy here and everyone is happy with him.”

Finally, when asked whether playing in the World Cup may influence the way that players approach the season, he was emphatic: “They are not thinking about the World Cup right now. Today is the draw and everyone is interested but to go to the World Cup they have to have a good season. They are focused on the competitions that we are playing in. A big competition for everyone starts tomorrow and it is not a problem.”

From yesterday, a little interview the Mister gave to esRadio.

Real Madrid manager, Italian Carlo Ancelotti, has assured that Atlético de Madrid is “currently one of the best teams in Europe”, as well as assuring that he is not obsessed with the Champions League and is happy with his team’s performance at the moment.

“It is a very dangerous, compact team with top quality players,” said the Madrid manager in an interview with ‘esRadio’. He also noted that despite the fact that Atlético has lost Falcao, “Diego Costa is doing an excellent job”. Ancelotti stated that he is satisfied with his team’s play at the moment and said, “We’re doing a good job. The team is confident and on good form.”

Carlo Ancelotti said that Real Madrid has played well in its last two games, in which it “found the back of the net”, although he noted that “it is not just about playing well, but defending well too”.

The Italian manager praised Xabi Alonso and labelled him “the key to all this”. “He is a very important player in this team. His quality and experience is impressive. His arrival was very good for the team,” assured Ancelotti, who added that he sees a lot of himself in Xabi Alonso, although the Real Madrid midfielder “is a better passer” and has “greater technical ability” than he did as a player. He also confessed that his greatest wish this Christmas is for Xabi Alonso to renew his contract, although “beating Valencia would also be a fantastic present”.

Zizou hit the road and made his way to Brazil for the WC draw. He took time out to spread the Cris lurve and reminisced about his NT days.

Zinedine Zidane is in Brazil for the World Cup draw but that does not allow him to rest from his duties at Real Madrid.

The Frenchman took time out to praise Cristiano Ronaldo who is expected to be one of the stars of the event next summer. “What he does on the pitch is breathtaking, absolutely marvelous”, were the words used by Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant to describe the player.

Zidane was referring to the exhibition the Portuguese forward gave in the World Cup play-off match against Sweden. “The way he led Portugal against the Swedes when many people thought his side was going out shows what an excellent player he is”, the former French World Cup winner said.

To sum up the player, Zidane relied on what he sees on a day-to-day basis in training at Real Madrid: “He is an example for all those who train with him. A great professional.”

On the subject of the World Cup draw, the Frenchman does not hope for an easy group for his national side: “We want France to face the best sides and get as far as possible, I’m not worried about them having to play against the more difficult teams.”

Zidane also remembered the final in 1998 that France won thanks to two goals from him over Brazil: “It is one of the sweetest moments of my life, but I do not think the Brazilians hate me for it. Whenever I come here I am always well received.”

Finally a little preview of what’s to come this summer! Several countries, including Portugal, will be sporting Nike’s new Pro Hypercool 3.0 shirts at the WC. Whoa baby! Hopefully these shirts are just for training, because I think we can all agree when it comes time to swap shirts, we don’t wanna see no under layers!!

Seeing cris not able to play brought back the ugly flood of memories that was the cdr final last year. Sigh. Onwards and upwards!
