Someone Broke Gareth, Well Suited, The Circus Visits The Circus & More

918-151-_1AM2887Thumb,8So the mothership isn’t exactly saying  who did the damage but they released this statement “The player Gareth Bale was involved in a collision with a teammate during today’s training session and received a blow to his left calf. Progress is being monitored.” So both Gareth & Cristiano (he’s suspended) will be out of the match tomorrow. It sounds like it was minor, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

The team finished their last training before the Copa Del Rey match tomorrow against the singin’, dancin’ happy Olímpic de Xàtiva. Sergio & The Baby trained inside while Fabio & Sami continue their recovery.

Cirque du Soleil made their annual visit to see the players.  It seems apt to have one of the world’s most famous circus groups visit the circus that is Real Madrid.  The 70 member strong cast of Alegría (who hail from 17 countries)  met with the team after training. They always do some fun pictures and this year was no exception as the acrobats performed flips. Sergio’s probably all like “Pffft! I can do that!

Today also saw some activity that probably made Xabi extremely happy. The team posed in their official suits which were designed by Versace. I sure do love a well suited boy.

Carlo took to the press room to talk about the Copa Del Rey.

Ancelotti: “We need to progress in the cup because it is an important competition”
by Alberto Navarro

The Whites’ coach spoke in the press room about Olímpic Xàtiva: “In the first leg we came up against a good team that defended very well. The second leg will be the same and we have to be very focused and motivated”

Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the press room at Real Madrid City the day before the second leg of the Copa del Rey round of 32. The Italian coach, who confirmed that the starting team will include “Carvajal, Pepe, Nacho, Arbeloa, Casemiro, Illarra, Isco, Di María, Jesé and Morata”, spoke about the match against Olímpic Xàtiva: “We need to progress in this competition because it is important. It’s the last home match of the year and we have to play well, with intensity, and maintain the run of form that the team has been in. It was not such a bad match against Osasuna. The first 15 minutes were the team’s best this season. We have to be confident. In the first leg we came up against a good team that defended very well. The second leg will be the same and we have to be very focused and motivated”.

When asked about Di María, he was clear: “He will start because Bale took a knock on the calf today and will not be available. He has played a lot of matches and is very important to us. We have not spoken with him and I have not seen any change in him. He is training well and is happy. He did not play well against Osasuna, but came on at a tough point in the match. I am completely confident in him”.

Ramos and Bale were two other players that the Italian coach mentioned by name. About the first, he said: “He had back problems before the warm-up against Osasuna. He made a sacrifice to play and still has the same problems, but if he doesn’t play in Valencia it will not be due to physical problems”. Regarding the Welshman, he said: “He had a problem with his calf half an hour ago and we’ll have to see how he progresses. It doesn’t look like he’ll have problems playing on Sunday”.

About whether they have practiced penalties, he said: “We don’t usually train that sort of thing because any problems are emotional, not technical. It is difficult to create the same atmosphere in training as there is for a penalty shootout in the Champions League or cup”. He went on to reveal some of the starting team for the match: “Xabi Alonso will rest and start on the bench tomorrow. Starting will be Carvajal, Pepe, Nacho, Arbeloa, Casemiro, Illarra, Isco, Di María, Jesé and Morata”.

When asked specifically about the centre-backs that will play on Sunday in Valencia, he said: “We will start to think about the match in Valencia after tomorrow. We have Nacho, Arbeloa and Llorente, who is very young and has a lot of quality but is inexperienced. Pepe is suspended and we are appealing Ramos’ sending off”. About the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo winning the Ballon d’Or, he was clear: “If he wins it, we’ll all be happy”.

The Real Madrid coach also spoke about the referee’s performance in the match against Osasuna: “Referees get things wrong and he did not have a good match. He made mistakes but that is where it ends. I do not like talking about it. It was a mistake and we should look forward”. He also spoke about the changes that he made in the El Sadar Stadium: “I changed Di María for Bale to change from 4-4-1 to 4-3-2 because we needed good cover on the wings and a lot of depth. Then I changed Nacho for Modric to put Xabi Alonso in a more central position to make use of his passing. And finally Jesé came on for Isco because the other team were very closed up and we had to open up the play”.

Regarding Schalke 04, their Champions League round of 16 opponents, he said: “They were not the strongest team that we could have drawn, but we have to respect them because they have experience in this competition and German teams are always dangerous because they work hard. They have Boateng, Farfán and Draxler up front and we have to be careful”. Finally, about the level of La Liga, he revealed: “It is very high because the two teams that are up top are the only ones with 43 points. That is the history La Liga; to win you have to score around 100 points”.

Here’s a few more bits & bobs. Iker posted the photo below captioned “Nine months of waiting.” You would think he’s actually the one giving birth. He’s so going to be carrying around the woobins (Apparently their son will be named Martin) in a Baby Bjorn. I wonder if Sara will be able to actually hold her own kid before Iker scoops up the wee one and never lets go?

BbtKn70IMAA0KFXPepe Reina rather hilariously replied “Everything you learn in books will be multiplied x 1000 gordito!” (Gordito means ‘chubby’) Pepe should know. He’s well on his way to fathering at the very least a 5 a side team with his kids Alma, Grecia, Luca & Thiago.

El Pirata posed with his doctors and said he had good news. Can someone give an accurate translation of the last line?

“Día 91: Revisión en Vitoria. Buenas noticias. Dr Sánchez y Dr Glez de Suso: pisarán conmigo el césped cuando vuelva.”

I know it’s something about grass trampling but ::shrugs::
BbtUNcnIUAAJ6sUHe looks great but a tad skinny. I’ll happily fatten him up a bit when I get to San Sebastian.

Arbeloa posted a picture with Cris, Fabio & Pepe who are joining him in his efforts to fight childhood cancer.

If you haven’t already seen the ad for the campaign, here it is.

A rough translation of El Pirata’s tweet reads “Good news- [The doctors] will walk on the grass with me when I return.” If I had to interpret that, sounds like the med team with him currently will join him at the club.

Mmmm, those suits. Versace does this team good.

(HO-LY SHITE! It’s been AGES since I commented here! Sorry about that. Now that Bambi’s off prancing about in London and Sami’s nursing a torn something-or-the-other in Germany I’m not as in touch with the Real Madrid online community as I used to be. Fear not, though! I still get as batshit crazy as ever during matches)

Mmmmmmm, suits … The ONLY suits the boys would look better in would be their birthday suits. Ey? EY?! ~_^

And Cris Jr looks the spitting image of his daddy indeed! Can’t really say the same thing about that wax work. I mean, it’s not the worst, but … He looks like he’s thinking too hard trying to solve a match problem. Or constipated. One of the two.

I just realized that Cris Jr. is an American citizen, having been born in the U.S. by an American mother. So if he became a football player, and hopefully inherited some of his Papi’s talent (along with his looks), he may then choose between playing for the U.S. or Portugal.

portugal has pretty lax citizenship laws (as the EU goes), so maybe he’s both? but good LORD, would i love bb cris on the USMNT. cris has said he’s already very enthusiastic about the game…

When I read the American citizen part, my first thought was, “He can be president!” haha.
