At Least We Didn’t Draw Bayern, Right?

I said no German teams!!! Is this what I get for voicing my wishes aloud?? Grrr…well, we know it could’ve been worse and now we have the opportunity to exact our revenge on Dortmund for (barely!) knocking us out of the semis last year!

From realmadrid.com

The first leg will be played on Tuesday the 2nd of April in the Santiago Bernabéu and the second will take place on Tuesday the 8th of the same month in Signal Iduna Park in Germany.

Real Madrid will take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals after the draw made at midday at the House of European Football in Nyon (Switzerland). Carlo Ancelotti’s side will play the first leg in the Santiago Bernabéu (1st or 2nd of April) and the second a week later in Signal Iduna Park (8th or 9th of April).

With the Bundesliga all but over, their chances of winning a title this season now lie in the German Cup, where they meet Wolfsburg in the semis, and the European Cup. They had a tricky Group Stage in which they were drawn against Arsenal, Napoli and Marseille, but they ended up topping the group despite losing twice. In the last sixteen, despite losing at home in the second leg, they knocked out Zenit in a match that ended with a yellow for Lewandowski, meaning that their top goal-scorer in the competition, with six, will miss the first match of the quarter-final. The side’s balance against Real Madrid is two victories, three draws and three defeats.

Ancelotti:
Carlo Ancelotti spoke to Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV about the Champions League quarter-finals draw, which paired up Real Madrid with Borussia Dortmund: “The best teams have reached this round. Borussia has a very good squad, it is a good team and it is experienced in this competition. Last year it reached the final and it will be a very open quarter-final. We are really looking forward to it and we will have to play well against what is a very competitive team”.

“They are out of the German league and I think they will be very motivated in the Champions League. It is a quality team with great organisation, above all in defence and on the counter. To win we will need courage and personality”.

The other quarter-final clashes
“There are some very interesting matches. There is an all-Spanish clash between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid. PSG-Chelsea will be a very open game and, finally, Bayern Munich will be favourites against Manchester United. They are quarter-finals and it is all very open”.

Butragueno:
Emilio Butragueño spoke to the press after the draw held in the House of European Football in Nyon (Switzerland) which drew Real Madrid with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals: “It is an opportunity to demonstrate that we want to beat them. Last year we met four times and they showed that they are a very strong team. This year I think we are looking very good, we played well up to the knockout stages and we hope to be back here for the draw on the eleventh”.

“You never know, that’s the truth. There certainly appeared to be some strong teams, we all think that Bayern are on form at the moment and nobody wanted to meet them and Borussia Dortmund knocked us out last year. It is true that this season they are not doing as well, but even so it is a very competitive team and we have to be very careful”.

Lewandowski’s suspension
“He is undoubtedly a key member of their strikeforce. Even so, they have very talented players but not having Lewandowski should definitely have a negative impact on their game and hopefully we can take advantage of that”.

What do y’all think of the matchups? It seems like putting Barca & Atleti up against each other could mean good things for us league-wise…tire each other out por favor! 😉

I am seriously thinking about shelling out the cash for the Bernabeu leg… don’t suppose anyone else is going? I have been praying for this fixture since I moved to Madrid, love both teams!

oh don’t worry… real is giong to make it to the semifinals. as a girls from dortmund it really hurts me to say that but dortmund doesn’t have any chance this year ( half of the team injured, first leg without lewy, last few matches went more or less bad because sometimes they just seem to forget how to pass a ball properly…).
well, at least one of my favourite teams is going to make it to the next round. aaaand los chicos from madrid are coming to my city again *yaaaaaaay*
today all my friends and family were like “sorry but you’re crazy” because my reaction after the draw was “oh no… we’re so going to loose this but heeeeey: i’m going to see them at the airport and i totally have to find out in which hotel they’re going to stay. oh please, why real madrid again ???” xD

My first reaction to drawing Dortmund was: NOT AGAIN!!!

I’m a fan of both teams, so, like last year, im torn 😦 But from a neutral (and logical) point of view, i can see revenge taking place. May the better team win!

Seems to me, they drew the match-ups by matching monochromatic team colors. Since yellow is the closest thing to white, we drew Dortmund.
