We….did….IT!!!!! Faq, it feels good to have a trophy again, doesn’t it?? I still don’t think it’s sunk in for me yet. Not that I didn’t think the boys could do it, they just stir up a whirlwind of emotions & it takes time for me to process all the cray! And by cray I mean watching the celebrations, anticipating a Copa accident, and then being slightly disappointed that the thing made it out alive… But shit….now that we have one, let’s go for a fuckin’ clean sweep. The treble, boys, THE TREBLE!

Look at these fine & recovering PYTs (SAMI!!!) + Flo P. at the airport ahead of the match. Tell me, how can you go wrong when these guys look so right? Ya just can’t. Definitely some luscious looking lucky charms they were.

Cristiano’s cap + suit look is what superhero costumes are to little kids a week after Halloween….the refusal to wear anything else!

Seriously, we showed up to play against Barca! We were ON it and looking to score, bright and early. Di Maria did just that, the magical little string bean that he is. Eleven minutes in and we were in the lead! OOWAH OOWAH! Ahhh, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the goal vids over and over and I still get the same goofy smile as I did when I saw the goal the first time. Isco to Bale! Bale to Benz! Benz to “Angle” Di Maria, straight through Jordi Alba’s little legs and right past Pinto into the net!

We kept fiyah coming and powering forward and for a long while, nothing went in, but not for lack of trying. Can someone get G-Money the Most Diligent Player Award? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop? More like how many fucking chances does it take for Bale to finally hit net?? Damn! Before we got to see that fabulous winner from G-Money, Barca equalized in the 68th minute – a goal from Bartra. With the score still at 1-1 and it nearing the end of the match, things were definitely looking like we’d go into extra time. No, no, and no, I didn’t think my heart could take that and I definitely didn’t want this thing to end up in a penalty shootout. Luckily, G-Money is part cheetah and showed us a sprint that blew our freaking minds and gave us a goal that won us the Copa!

After that 85th minute goal, there was a whole lotta holding our breaths and praying for that final whistle, but it eventually came! CAMPEONESSSS!!!!

Here’s to Iker lifting many, many, many more trophies!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember the boys receiving miniature Copas last time we won… All I could think of when I saw these bebe Copas, were the eggs you have to take care of in Home Ec. “You must treat it as if it were the real thing Sergio, two hands at all times.” If these little practice trophies were a way to keep Sergio away from our new & still intact CdR, then it definitely was a failed attempt. The boy was the first to take that thing away from Iker. Oh, Sese. Watch him fake a trophy drop here.

If don’t like the way someone is celebrating….

….get rid of them.

Enter Torero Ramos…such grace our Pony has.

Ancelotti may have tried to get away, but not before he was tossed around by a bunch of excited & trophy deprived boys.

Real Madrid sealed its 19th Copa de España in the Mestalla. Carlo Ancelotti showed his satisfaction at winning his first title with the Whites. “I didn’t have a score to settle. I’m happy to have won this competition. We deserved it because we had a good run and today was very difficult because we were playing against a very strong team. We won through hard work and we had chances to put the match to bed in the second half”.

“I’m just happy for both the players and the fans. I’m happy to have been here and experienced this spectacle. Now it is time to celebrate with the fans. Tonight was great because of the atmosphere. The fans helped us a lot. It was a spectacle on and off the pitch”.

Tactical analysis
“We tried to apply pressure up front, to have control of the game and make the most of counters. In the first half we were giving the ball away when we should have had more possession. We did a great job in defence. In the middle of the pitch we were looking to defend with four players to avoid through balls”. “Then it’s easier to control that. We prepared a team with four midfielders when we were defending, but we were attacking as always, with Bale on the wing and the full-backs going forward”.

Bale and Isco
“It is certainly the most important goal of Bale’s career. It came at a decisive point of the match. Everyone played very well because they did so as a team. To beat Barcelona you have to play like that, compact and as a team”. “Isco is really on form and he adds to our ability to control the game and have possession. We tried to control the game and we have a lot of quality in that regard. He hasn’t played many minutes and he is fresher than the others”.

“There is no need to judge this team on this title. The team is having a great season and it is clear that we had to win something. We have started well and now we’re going to fight for the other titles. In Italy it is not such an important competition as in England and Spain. Playing in the final with a Clásico is very significant and we are in the fight to win every competition”.

Di María’s hard work
“The absence of Cristiano Ronaldo provided a lot of motivation for the rest to give their all. Di María worked very hard today. We have a week to get him back and we have injured players who can recover. In one week we can come back fully charged for the match against Bayern”.

The team’s response after the equaliser
“There’s no time to think. All you can do is check that the team do not let their heads drop. At that point we suffered a little, but in the end everything was fine. When they equalised anything could have happened. We did not give our opponents any chances. We defended well, but anything could have happened after the equaliser”.

Regarding Barcelona
“Everyone says they are at the end of a cycle, but playing them is very tough. In a season there are times at which you do not have the luck you need to win, but in my opinion the team is not finished. It is a very dangerous team. Not everything has gone well for them this season, but they still have La Liga and they’re going to fight until the end for it. All three teams have a chance of winning the league”.

San Iker:

Casillas spoke of his excitement after Real Madrid’s win over Barcelona: “The team were amazing in this competition. It was a great game with chances for both teams, but we deserved to win. I’m happy for all the fans who came to Valencia, this is the icing on the cake in a wonderful competition”.

“This is when we think of Jesé, who is also deserving of this and he is not well. He’s a superstar and he’ll be back with us soon. We’re going to Madrid happy and delighted for the fans. Now we have to enjoy it and then focus on La Liga and the Champions League”.

“It was incredible, we’re very proud. This title is sweet. It was passionate, and both teams were highly competitive. It was a great game to experience and to play in. I hope the Madrid fans enjoyed it. And of course we’ll enjoy ourselves at Cibeles later”.

The author of the goal that earned Real Madrid its 19th Copa del Rey title was unable to contain his happiness at the end of 90 hard-fought minutes of football. “It’s a dream come true, not just because I scored but because of the work of the whole team. It was really special. We’ve won the first of the three available titles and we have to keep fighting for everything. But now we have to be thinking about the next game and nothing else”.

“This win is for all the fans and we hope that it will be the first of many to come. Thank you all for your support during the season. We have worked hard as a team”.

The move that led to the goal
“I had to sprint, Bartra pushed me and tried to block my path but wasn’t able to. I had to go around him. It was great to score the goal but even better to win the match and pick up a title for Real Madrid. The atmosphere was fantastic. It has been a perfect night. I’m delighted to have won my first title with Madrid. I think we could go on to win even more this season”.

“The fans were incredible throughout the day. Since walking us from our hotel to the stadium, they have been a massive help, and were also there for us during the difficult spells in the match. We have to celebrate this title with our fans and then start to think about the upcoming games”.

“The strength and ability Bale displayed during that run was incredible. We all sang from the same hymn sheet in order to win. Real Madrid deserves to be the champion. This is my second Copa del Rey title”.
