The Daily Drool: Nicola Leali

8 May

Brescia-L'Aquila coppa ItaliaGoalkeeper Nicola plays for Serie B club Spezia Calcio on loan from Juventus. He has represented Italy at the U17, U18, U19, U20 & U21 levels. (Man, waiting to move up as a ‘keeper for Italy has gotta be worse than even Spain, isn’t it? Gigi Buffon made his debut for the Italy U16 team the year Nicola was born. He’s been on the senior side since Leali was 4, albeit not first choice goalkeeper that whole time!)

      Morgan –

Do you know that “wop” is an ethnic/racial slur? It is. Do you know how I know? Because when my grandfather came from Italy to America, this was one of the words that ignorant people used to denigrate him and make him feel lesser than. You would think that this behavior would have changed in the last 100 years or so and people would be a bit more culturally sensitive in 2014, but apparently not. I don’t appreciate seeing this word on my blog.

      Peace, Lozil
