World Cup 2014 – Group B News Round-Up

17 Jun

tumblr_n77xqf0TGx1t710zlo1_500Hello, everyone! It’s been a fantastic few days of football, hasn’t it? Our boys in Group B have been training for their next matches. No one’s caught them skinny-dipping, or managed to get Spain’s roommates list (I still live in hope), but here’s the good news and the bad news…

Bad news first: there are recurring concerns about the fitness of Arturo Vidal. He managed to play in Chile’s opening match against Australia, but he had surgery on his knee just three weeks ago, so he is a doubt for the match against Spain.

Meanwhile, Spain’s David De Gea (AKA the only thing at Manchester United capable of melting my cold, City-loving heart) is also suffering from an injury. The initial rumor was that he’d hurt his hip, but it turns out he had problems with a gluteal muscle during training over weekend. There’s a lot of speculation as to how long it will take him to recover, but the general consensus is that he’ll be out for at least the rest of the group stage.

Animo Vidal y De Gea!

This next bit of news isn’t all that great for Spain supporters, either (salt in the wound), but it’s pretty fun for everyone else. The newest global craze, it seems, is Persieing.

Robin Van Persie’s incredible header from the Netherlands-Spain match is inspiring the masses to meme, photoshop, and attempt to recreate the move themselves. So, if you need to put up some new selfies, people, this should be your pose.

Not much news coming out about the Australian National Team, but I feel like it’s my duty- as a public service announcement, you know- to remind you all that their goalkeeper looks like this:

What is up with the ‘halo shadowing’? I like, I like, but it looks odd.

As for Persieing, don’t know if this is true or not, but still funny
