World Cup 2014 – Group F: Argentina 2 – Bosnia and Herzegovina 1

17 Jun

bosnia argentina

Starting Line Ups

Romero, Garay, Campagnaro, Zabaleta, Di Maria, You Know Who, Rodriguez, Mascherano, Rojo, Fernandez, Aguero

Begovic, Bicakcic, Spahic (c), Kolasinac, Besic, Pjanic, Misimovic, Dzeko, Mujdza, Lulic, Hajrovic
Well, this match ended up being a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Argentina got an early goal by the means of an own goal from Kolasinac off of a free kick in the third minute. A really disappointing and shocking start if you ask me for BIH.

The score remained 1-0 for Argentina until half time with only a yellow card awarded to Rojo in the 24th minute being anything of note.

At half-time, Sabella (Argentinean manager) made 2 substitutes, Gonzalo Higuain for Rodriguez and Gago for Campagnaro. Gonzo (the one with the booty visible from the top of the Bernebaeu) almost immediately made an impact on the match. It was (in my opinion) because of this substitution that He Who Shall Not Be Named was able to get his first goal in the 65th minute, his first since the group stages of 2006. Of course, my commentators immediately lost their… yeah… you know what I was going to say. It was a very pretty goal, I mean, just look at this gif! But still… I didn’t find it again but a tweet I saw said “If Ronaldo had scored that, they would have said it was “only” Bosnia.” Which to me is completely disregarding the amount of talent Bosnia has.

That’s enough about him. Shortly before the goal, Spahic was awarded a yellow card. In the 70th, 71st and 74th minute, BIH made their 3 substitutions: Ibisevic for Muidza; Visca for Hajrovic; and Medunjanin for Misimovic.

FINALLY, during the 85th minute BIH gained their first goal of a World Cup match ever. (Well, for them.) Ibisevic (yay subustitute!), scored a goal straight through the legs of the Argentinean goalkeeper, Romero. So, final score: 2-1. I will tell you, I’m impressed by BIH’s performance.

Ibisevic grew up in St. Louis. He was born in Yugoslavia, but his family had to leave Yugoslavia during the war and eventually ended up in St. Louis. He finished high school there and played for SLU. He played for USA at the youth levels but I think it’s great that he chose to play for BIH

I was rooting for Bosnia so much! They’re my favorite underdogs this World Cup, but that’s not to say they’re not legit. They really are. I want them to go on a tear from here on out.

this was an interesting match – BIH came on really strong here against a formidable opponent. that said, argentina have some serious tightening up to do if they plan on making it very far. hopefully we’ll see 50% more pipita next time around.

A lot, probably the majority, of the BIH players grew up outside of Bosnia. I should do a post of who’s who, etc…

I really want/hope BIH make it out of the group myself.
