World Cup 2014 – Group D: The Bed Bug Sabotage

19 Jun

Uruguay v Costa Rica: Group D - 2014 FIFA World Cup BrazilDid your parents ever tell you not to take food into your bedroom or you’d end up with ants? ‘Cause they knew you would never bring the dishes back out? My mom did tell me this, and she was right (don’t ask how I learned this lesson).

Two nights before the Costa Rica game, Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera woke up at 2am to find what he thought were ants in his bed.

Translation: “Good morning! Look who woke me up at 2am! Nothing better than a good hypoallergenic!”

According to a report in the Tribuna do Ceara, Brazil’s federal police were called in to investigate the intruders. After examining Muslera’s photo the police argued they weren’t ants; they were termites. Termites in his bed!

The police now believe foul play is involved, that someone or someones gained access to Muslera’s room and sabotaged his bed with the bugs. LOL – bed bugs! They have not, however, ruled out that Muslera may have just left some food on his bed and that they were indeed ants.

Now, I’m going with ants because parents are always right, right? And because, well, why can’t they rule out whether he had food on the bed or not? Seems like an easy question to answer.

I’m thinking Muslera had some contraband like, oh I don’t know, dulce de leche? Officials say they confiscated the team’s dulce de leche supply (all 86 pounds!) when they landed but maybe not all. Ants do love sugar. They swarm around sweet-smelling items, and from the photo it looks like a mighty good-sized feast was happening.

*shivers* I just creeped myself out.

As a New Yorker, this is a constant fear of our’s here. I know people who had them in their building and it was a complete nightmare.

I’m in for his brother! I think the coach looks almost as much like a Bond villain as Butragueño

Muslera probably had his own hidden stash of dulce de leche!
