Throwback Thursday Hair Horror

3 Jul

512c04f9As you all know, we here at HB & HB  love to bitch and moan about the horrific hairstyles ‘ballers foist upon us. But honestly, kids, we don’t know real pain. I thought I’d just remind y’all what that’s about. But warning: this is not for the faint of heart. Case in point: Luis Figo who is looking all suave and urbane in the fotito above. Sure, he sometimes wears challenging attire when playing golf, but that’s whimsical. Cute, right? Mildly quirky! Well, back in 1991, Figo looked like this…

Saints preserve us! Oh the humanity!

And then in 1992, he did his own #TBT and ripped off David Byrne’s Stop Making Sense suit for an interview;  in teal, no less, and accessorized it with a head mop that shows he clearly missed his calling as a roadie for Mudhoney.

I just want to point out that he played at Sporting CP when he had that hair. By the time he got to Real Madrid in 2000, he looked like this.

Oh the 90s, so much to answer for. To put this into context, Varane wasn’t born when either of these interviews took place. He rocked into existence in April of 1993 and thankfully, missed a hair era best forgotten.

I cannot wait for some of today’s players to look back and be like “OMG! WHAT WAS I THINKING?!”  I can tell them from experience, that it happens quicker than you think.

And so ends our nightmare walk down memory lane.
