World Cup 2014: Who Wants a Hot Dog?

11 Jul

Brazilian WDOG: Bread, sausage, feijoada, banana flour mixture, bacon, cabbage and bean stew

I was complaining (mildly) earlier this week about not being able to find a hot dog vendor during my lunch hour. How could there not be a hot dog vendor at that time in the downtown area where I work? Unthinkable. And what did my complaining bring me? Photos of World Cup-inspired hot dogs, which are only available in Brazil. Of course they are.

For the World Cup festivities, Brazilian hot dog vendor WDOG has created 12 different country-themed hot dogs. Each is inspired by the different cuisines of the respective country, and is presented to reflect that country’s national colours. And the prime location to procure these dogs is next to the Arena Corinthians stadium in São Paulo. Of course it is.

American WDOG: Bread, mustard mayo, sausage, coleslaw, cheddar sauce, barbecue sauce

Belgian WDOG: Bread, sausage, sweet sauce, smashed potato, waterzooi

Colombiano Dog: Bread, sausage, cabbage salad, pineapple sauce, mayo, mustard, ketchup

Costa Rican Dog: Bread, sausage, Lizano sauce, smashed potato, caramelized banana

France WDOG: Bread, Vienna sausage, dijon mustard, bechamel sauce, gruyere cheese, ratatouille

Italian WDOG: Bread, polpettone filled with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, basil

Dutch WDOG: Bread, sausage, stamppot, sauerkraut, sweet sauce, bacon

Mexican WDOG: Bread, sausage, Doritos, guacamole, spicy chilli, red finger pepper

Japanese WDOG: Bread, hot sushi roll, sukiyaki, tare sauce, sesames

German WDOG: Bread, green mayo, “German sauce”, pickles, mashed potatoes, krauts, caramelized onions, dark mustard

Argentine WDOG: Bread, garlic mayo, sausage, vinaigrette, yellow pepper, chimichurri sauce

The Italian one sounds most appetizing to me. Everything else I’m not so sure about. And SO much mayo… Ick

Hold the mayo for me, too! These look really difficult to eat without staining your team jersey.

I want all of these. I don’t even know if I’d like them, but I want them.

Maybe they taste good, but the colored bread looks disgusting.
