A Hall of Fame Induction

25 Jul

carlo7_romaCongratulations are in order for The Mister who was inducted into the AS Roma Hall of Fame on Tuesday. His inclusion in the Class of 2014 was determined via fan voting and a 5-member commission appointed by the club.

The Mister spent 8 years in Rome, making his first-team debut in 1979. During his tenure he was pivotal in helping the club win one Serie A title (1983), four Italian Cups (1980, 1981, 1984 and 1986) and a European Cup runners-up medal in 1984. That is a hella lot of hardware!

Here was his statement upon hearing the news:

I feel honored and proud to be a part of the AS Roma Hall of Fame. The club and its atmosphere are something I’ll always keep in my heart. A big thanks to all the fans and coaches that have kept me in their thoughts and who still remember me so fondly. All the best.

He is joined in the Class of 2014 by fellow inductees/legends Alcides Ghiggia, Rudi Völler, and Vincent Candela. There will be a ceremony sometime during the upcoming season at Stadio Olimpico to celebrate the inductees. At that time, each player will receive a custom Hall of Fame jersey and the club will receive one of each jersey for display.

carlo-ancelotti-romaOn a side note, The Mister will be facing his former side on July 29 when Real Madrid take on AS Roma as part of the International Champions Cup. This is my “must see” game for the pre-season!
