Playmaker Showcase

14 Aug

2014_FIFA_U-20_Women's_World_Cup_logoI’ve brought you a couple great goals here and here, and a horrible tackle and one bloody nose here from the U-20 Women’s World Cup thus far. To wrap up the group stage, I’ll now bring you a few plays/playmakers deserving of some attention as well.

First up, Brazilian forward Byanca showcasing her trademark ball flip during the game vs China:

And again vs Germany:

Next, French midfielder Claire Lavogez providing the flick on to Faustine Robert vs Costa Rica:

And US forward Summer Green’s efforts here to setup the winning goal vs Brazil:

A shout-out is deserving to Nigerian midfielder Asisat Oshoala and to England forward Nikita Parris as well. Based on what I saw at the game last night, both have good playmaking instincts, and in Oshoala’s case some serious speed.

Also, congratulations are in order for midfielder Theresa Panfil who scored Germany’s 100th goal at the U-20 Women’s World Cup. She did it during the 5-5 goalfest vs China on August 8. Yup, 10 goals in one game. Germany are the first country to reach the century mark in this competition.
