Screen-Shot-2014-08-18-at-164532Puma has egg all over its face after a marketing stunt went wrong today (well yesterday now because I didn’t post this before midnight). Followers were asked to tweet a specific hashtag to get a “personalized” response from a footballer. (The USMNT did something similar during the World Cup for supporters, but it was much more generic and very tame). Well, it didn’t take long for Twitter users to find a way to take the piss.

Users temporarily changed their username and the automated system just churned out replies. Here’s a sampling:

puma1Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. It’s like a text book case of “When Marketing Goes Horribly Wrong.”  I spit my coffee on the screen when I saw the Reus one.

Technology. So much to answer for.
