Spray Assault

20 Aug

The Premier League adopted that funky vanishing spray for this season, following its successful debut at the World Cup. Training on how to use the spray appears to be lacking however, specifically in regards to checking the nozzle before use.

Exhibit A: referee Jon Moss during the Arsenal vs Crystal Palace match on the weekend:

Spray away from the face, Jon! Spray away from the face!

Having been blasted in the face by numerous items throughout my life, I do not know how the referee stayed so calm. He took a full blast and finished his task like nothing happened. Makes you wonder, perhaps, maybe, he has blasted himself before?

I also wonder if Moss was trying to cheekily spray Cazorla who was hovering over him and, well, failed. “Step back there, whippersnapper; the line ain’t ready yet.” Hehehe, I look forward to more vanishing spray “fails” in the weeks to come.

I didn’t know the Mexican League was using the spray. Is it their first year as well?

I can’t recall as a kid if it was used back then, but I know it’s been around for at least the last 4 or 5 seasons
