The team seemed in high spirits today even though they were training in the rain today.

The Mister got a wee bit feisty in his presser today.

Ancelotti: “We know it won’t be easy against Deportivo, we will have to give it our all”
by Edu Bueno

“I have a lot of good right backs to choose from with Carvajal, Arbeloa and Nacho; the only player unavailable is Pepe”, added the Real Madrid manager in the press room.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke to various media outlets during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Deportivo de la Coruña. “We have to carefully consider how we are going to play against each opponent. Deportivo will play with a lot of intensity. That’s to be expected. We are used to that. It won’t be easy given this early stage of the season and we know that we’ll have to give it our all against Deportivo”.

“We have to improve our level of play and be more consistent. We have lacked a bit of consistency but we believe we will improve and we are doing exactly that now”, the Real Madrid manager added.

Right back
“I have a lot of good players to choose from with Carvajal, who is available, Arbeloa and Nacho, who played well against Basel. We don’t have any problems and the only player unavailable is Pepe, who has an overused muscle”.

Away match
“It’s always difficult away from home. We feel at home in the Bernabéu. You’ll always have some critics, but playing at home fills you with confidence and that helps you. I would prefer to play every match in the Bernabéu. Now and again people whistle and in the past they had good reason to so a lot of time, but it’s our home and we prefer playing there”.

“Deportivo will play with a lot of intensity but we are used to that.”

Regarding the playing system and the high-pressing game, Ancelotti explained: “The high-pressing game is good because if you win possession you have more of a chance of creating a goal-scoring opportunity with just one pass. We are adapting very well to it but there is still room for improvement. We pressured well in the oppositions’ half against Basel, although we need to control things better in our own half in terms of defending”.

Illarramendi and Chicharito
All Illarra needs is to be put on the pitch. He is not missing anything. I have a lot of confidence in him. He played very well last year. Chicharito will start on the bench. If he plays, it will be to take Benzema’s position but we are not going to change things around now”.

The team’s form
“Playing matches helps in terms of improving our fitness level and I think the players are in good shape physically. Cristiano, Benzema and Kroos are in great form. Luka Modric and Gareth Bale are still a bit off their peak fitness, and the best way to regain that is by playing. I hope they’ll be at 100% soon”.

The Mourinho and Ronaldo relationship
“What do you want me to say? If Mourinho doesn’t want to come back here, he has other options. He is a great manager and could manage anywhere. He didn’t create a good atmosphere here so it’s normal that he wouldn’t want to come back. I don’t know what his relationship with Ronaldo is like and I’m not interested in knowing. It is a personal relationship and has nothing to do with Real Madrid”.

Drop in fitness
“Like I said, we had a strange preseason because of the World Cup, with players coming back late meaning we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare. However, that is a problem a lot of teams have had to face. With time we’ll be able to overcome it”.

The centre of midfield
“We can rotate the squad and we have top quality players from the youth academy to draw on like Medrán and Llorente. The central midfield positions will be covered with Illarra, Isco and the return of Khedira… The youth academy players are another option, although maybe not quite yet”.

League standing
“We are not thinking about that. We have to improve both in terms of our fitness and our tactics. That is the concern. We did things very well against Basel and now is not the time to be worrying ourselves. We have be to calm because it is a long season. One thing I’m sure of is that Real Madrid will be in the title race until the very end of the season. I don’t understand the concern. We won the European Cup four months ago, after going without the title for a very long time. We have to believe that we have enough quality to do it”.

Goalkeepers
“Navas is in very good form and we are very pleased with him. Signing him was great for us because he is a top quality goalkeeper, but for the moment Iker Casillas will be starting”. To conclude the press conference he spoke about the continuous changes to the starting line up: “The most important thing is keeping the squad motivated and the best way to do that is through rotation”.

The following players have been called up for the match:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Keylor Navas and Pacheco.
Defenders: Varane, Ramos, Coentrão, Marcelo, Carvajal, Arbeloa and Nacho.
Midfielders: Kroos, James, Bale, Modric, Isco and Illarra.
Strikers: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Chicharito.

In good news, Marca is reporting that Jese could be back at the end of October or early November.  Oh and RM won a lawsuit against Catalan channel TV3 for airing an offensive commercial back in 2013 depicting certain Real Madrid players as hyenas.

Our King Muppet Baby Alvaro Morata may have left us for Juventus, but we’re still missing him. I’m so glad he’s settling in well (and bromancing with Llorente!).  He made some comments about how the Lion King is helping get his bearings in Turin.

Morata pointed to one player in particular who has helped him adapt to Turin, a long-standing favourite of his.

“I was a ball boy in a game Fernando Llorente played at Vicente Calderon – when he played for Athletic Bilbao – and I had his Athletic shirt hanging in my living room,” Morata revealed.

“I’ve been lucky enough to meet someone like Fernando and apart from admiring him as a player, he has helped me in everything and taken care of me.

“He brings me to training and drives me, tells me where to eat or shop. We share a room when we’re away. He’s a great guy. He also gives me Italian lessons! I can’t ask for any more.

“The truth is almost everyone has taken me home after training. One of them even took me to the dentist. These players are a family.”

I am loving the Morata/Llorente bromance! Keep it going boys!

Also, how young does James look in those photos with Cris?! I mean, I know he’s young but crikey. And the arm muscles on Arbeloa… You know I’m swooning

Italian boarding school has obviously been kind to Morata 😉 I’m so excited for all of the off pitch antics that this bromance will be up to!
