In the Roma vs. Cagliari game today, Alessandro Florenzi scored in the 13′ to give Roma a 2-0 lead. Then he ran into the stands to celebrate with his nonna. Because that is the Italia way.
In a post-match interview, Florenzi said, “She is 82 and had never been to the stadium. After I played for Italy, she told me that she’d come to the stadium and I would score. My family gave me this passion for football, I want to share my joy with everyone.”
Awwwwww. I was at brunch, and those of us watching in the café were wondering where he was going, as he just kept running. Love that the feed stayed on him so we all could share in his joy.
Roma’s manager Rudi Garcia stated afterwards, “He’ll pay a fine but he’s happy to do so. Ale’s hug with his grandmother was a lovely moment.” It was indeed.
