Training, Trouble & LFP Awards

27 Oct

12Don’t know about you, but I’m still on a high from the Clasico win on Saturday. Watishista hopechaser is hard at work on the recap even as we speak.

The team had their first session of the week as the prepare for the Copa Del Rey clash vs. Cornellà on Wednesday. Fabio, Sese, Man Edith, G-Money and Jese worked out indoors. The Mister gave Cristiano the day off.

There was some trouble today as the Spanish Football Federation handed down 3 month coaching bans to both Zizou and Castilla assistant coach Santiago Sanchez. Real Madrid is pissed and issued an official statement that they’re going to fight the bans. We haven’t heard the end of this.

The LFP Awards took place tonight and 5 of our players were up for consideration (Cristiano, Keylor Navas, Sergio, Modric & Jese). Everyone but Jese took home an award (poor woobins!). Cristiano took home 3 awards (Best Player, Best Forward and Best Goal).

They were awarded with the Best Player, Best Forward and Best Individual Goal, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Best Goalkeeper awards respectively for the 2013-14 Liga BBVA season.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and Keylor Navas picked up awards from the Liga de Fútbol Profesional for Best Player and Best Forward, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Best Goalkeeper respectively for the 2013-14 Liga BBVA season. During the ceremony, which was held in the Auditorium hotel in Madrid, the Portuguese player was also awarded with the gong for Best La Liga Goal for 2013-14 for his acrobatic back-heeled volley against Valencia in the Santiago Bernabéu.

He beat Courtois and Caballero in the voting.

Keylor Navas: “This is a spectacular team.”
“It is an honour to be here. Hopefully in the future I will be able to attend another ceremony like this. Awards help to confirm that you are on the right path and to inspire you to keep working. This is a spectacular team and we are very happy with the work we are doing. As footballers we always want to win, it is important to have that mentality. You have to fight for everything with Real Madrid”.

Sergio Ramos, who held onto the award he won for the 2012/13 season, played 32 games last year and scored 4 goals. The Real Madrid vice captain finished ahead of Filipe Luis and Miranda in the voting.

“The ceremony was phenomenal. This recognition is a bonus that inspires you to keep working for the future. It gives me great pride to be here again to collect this award. I want to thank my team-mates because without them this wouldn’t have been possible. The important thing is team work. I would like to offer my condolences to the family of Pepe García Carpintero, a great professional and great journalist”.

The gong for outstanding midfielder went to Luka Modric, who made 34 Liga BBVA appearances last season and saw off Gabi and Busquets in the voting to win: “I am very happy. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me as well as my Real Madrid team-mates, who have helped me to grow as a player. I want to thank the Real Madrid fans as well, they are very important to me”.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who received his Best Forward award from his team-mate James, was the top marksman during last season’s La Liga campaign, notching up 31 goals in 30 games. This tally also saw him pick up his third Golden Boot award. He saw off the challenge of Diego Costa and Carlos Vela in the voting.

He was bestowed with the Best La Liga Player award and, on top of that, his back-heeled volley against Valencia in the Santiago Bernabéu saw him win the Best Liga BBVA Goal for 2013-14. The Portuguese man’s strike beat Messi’s goal against Almería and Giovanni’s against Valencia.

Ronaldo: “This is the best moment of my career”
“I am very proud to be here and win these awards. I would like to thank my team-mates, the institution that is Real Madrid, my fans, my girlfriend and all the people who voted for me. This is the best moment of my career and I’m enjoying myself on the pitch”.

“We all like to win individual awards. It was a wonderful night. I am delighted to have won the awards and I will keep them in my trophy museum in Madeira”.

James was on hand to present Cristiano with the Best Forward award. What do you want to bet that Gareth is home pouting like crazy. I’m bummed that there were no pictures of Jese (that I’ve seen) even though he was a nominee. Maybe he didn’t attend?

Our nominees walked the red carpet with their loved ones. Keylor brought wife Andrea, Cris was with Irina, Luka brought wife Vanja and cutie pie son Ivano while Sergio’s date was his brother Rene. James appeared to be flying solo. Our whole delegation schmoozed their way around the ceremony.

Congrats to all the nominees and winners!
