Ancelotti: “We need to put in a disciplined match and continue our run of results”

“We have good memories of the Copa del Rey and we’re out to repeat what we did last year,” he said.

Real Madrid begin their defence of the Copa del Rey today against Cornellà. Ancelotti looked ahead to the encounter during his pre-match press conference at Ciudad Real Madrid: “We have good memories of this competition and we’re out to repeat what we did last year. It’s a match against a Segunda División B team, we need to put in a disciplined match and continue our run of results.”

“We go into the match with the same tension and focus as all other games. When we pull on the Real Madrid shirt it’s always the same. The Real Madrid shirt brings responsibility, and the players understand that fully.”

Starting line-up
“I’m going to rest Iker, Pepe, who is suspended, Kroos, Modric and Cristiano. Tonight, Keylor Navas, Arbeloa, Carvajal, Varane, Nacho, James, Khedira, Illarra, Isco, Chicharito and Benzema are going to play”.

Knowledge of Cornellá
“We don’t know a lot about Cornellà. I’ve seen some games. They’re a team who are really up for it. It could be the game of their lives. It’s really good for football that they can compete against us. We have to show them respect and play a disciplined match.”

“The team’s professionalism is something that is particularly apparent in this type of match. I don’t have any doubts about tonight’s match. We have to respect Cornellà’s play and their fighting spirit. I don’t think there are any players who stand out above the rest, we’re playing against a team.”

Importance of the Copa
“It’s a difficult draw. Getting to the final is harder than last year. But winning it gave us a lot of confidence for the Champions League.”

“The Real Madrid shirt brings responsibility and the players understand that fully.”

“We’re all working together, we have the same idea. We’re convinced about what we have to do to achieve a good level of performance and motivation. That’s the aim. We want to be in it together, and we talk a lot. The reaction we have had after Real Sociedad is because we looked for what wasn’t working.”

Xavi opinion
“Xavi’s comments are the opinion of a great player, who has extraordinary experience. But it’s an opinion. It’s clear that Madrid’s counter-attack is tremendous, but what we try to do is not just that, but to keep good control and possession, which has to be effective to find attacking solutions. That’s what we’re trying to do and what we did against Barcelona. I don’t think it was disrespectful.”

Injured players
”Bale has had a small injury in a muscle. It’s very strange that he injured that muscle, but he is recovering well and I think that next week he will be available for the Liverpool match. Coentrão started training on Monday, and Jesé is continuing with his individual training and we don’t have an exact date.”

Nomination for FIFA Coach of the Year award
“I’m proud about being nominated in this category, but I’ve already received the biggest prize, which is the Champions League. If we win another, I’ll have to extend the trophy cabinet.”

Blatter’s comments
“What the FIFA president does always surprises me. The Ballon d’Or is a topic that is talked about two months before. Last year, Cristiano had other rivals like Messi, but with the season he has had this year, with a lot of goals and major trophies, there is no doubt that he is going to win the Ballon d’Or.”

Isco and Bale
“He could lose his place when Bale returns. I have to put eleven players out on the pitch. We have a lot of games and I can’t always name the same eleven. I think that many have forgotten that Bale scored in the final of the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. He’s a very important player.”

The following players made the trip to Barcelona:

Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas, Pacheco and Rubén Yáñez.
Defenders: Varane, Marcelo, Carvajal, Arbeloa, Nacho and Jaime.
Midfielders: Khedira, James, Isco, Illarra, Medrán and Lucas Torró.
Forwards: Benzema, Chicharito and Raúl de Tomás.

HALA MADRID!
