Off to Granada!

Iker’s Halloween costume is obviously a starfish. Well done!

Happy Halloween, watishista ghosts and goblins! I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to plan a Halloween costume at all. I also haven’t had time to get a brow wax lately so I might as well throw on a Barca kit & scowl, bitch about pitch conditions, say I’m Xavi and be done with it. Alas, no matter what the state of my brows, I’m way too tall, blonde & Madridista-y to be Xavi. I also could give a rat’s about grass seed and sprinklers so maybe I’ll just skip the costume this year? Hope you’re all having fun and getting lots of candy. What’s everyone going as?

James is going as CR7's bestie, much to G-Money's chagrin.

Animo Gareth! Your boo needs you! And if you don’t get healthy you run the risk of going lower on the fanboy totem pole. Looks like Jese will be back very soon.

The team had a final training before heading off to Granada.

Ancelotti: “I expect an intense and difficult match against Granada”
by Javier Garcia

“Our attitude in recovering possession when we don’t have the ball is great”, said the Italian.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke about Saturday’s upcoming clash with Granada, a game in which Real Madrid will be looking to continue their great run of form: “Granada have changed from last year, and also have a new manager. It will be a tough game with a lot of intensity. Caparrós teams fight hard and are well organised so we’ll need to be careful”.

“The key is playing with the same attitude, knowing that it will be a complicated game and that we will have to battle and be the better side in order to win. The starting eleven has not been finalised. Pepe and Modric have problems that need to be evaluated so I will wait until the training session before making my decision. Bale, Coentrão and Jesé are all still injured. The starting eleven will not be influenced by the Liverpool game”.

Good run of form
“We are happy with what we are doing, each match is a test and we’re not dwelling on the games that have already been played. We are enjoying a good run and are focused on the next game. We want to continue doing the same, each game is a test and you never know what will happen. The players’ attitude has changed when they don’t have the ball. We recover possession well and press very high up the pitch. As such, it is easier to attack. We have a good attitude”.

Centre of the park
“Khedira and Illarra are important players, who will be used this season. They played the other day and did well. Kroos and Modric can’t play the whole season. Illarra is not Modric and Khedira is not Kroos, but I have complete faith in them”.

Bale and Isco, compatible
“Neither is angry about not playing. Whoever deserves to play will play. Isco is playing really well. He is in a rich vein of form and I hope it can last until the end of the season. Bale and Isco have played together plenty of times and have done well. They can work together”.

“We are enjoying a good run and are focused on the next game.”

“We are fighting in order to win La Liga. As always I have said that the Champions League is the most important competition in the world. It is possible for us to be league leaders by Christmas. Anything is possible. We have to continue like we are and prepare well for each game”.

Praise for Marcelo
“Marcelo is able to play consistently and at a high level like he is showing at the moment. He hasn’t always done so but now he is playing fantastically. He is helping the team. He is training really well and is very focused on his defensive duties”.

LFP Awards
“I was not surprised with the awards the Real Madrid players won. It wasn’t surprising at all that those who were nominated won awards”.

Zidane’s sanction
“I’ve spoken with Zidane and he is not happy. We are optimistic and hope that the judge repeals the sanction”. (Speaking of – update on the situation here. Lozil.)

Caparrós ripping up the front page
“I’ve had the urge to rip it up myself sometimes. Caparrós did it in style. I can understand his reaction, it can happen, although I’ve never torn up a newspaper”.

The following players were called up for tomorrow’s match:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Keylor Navas and Pacheco.
Defenders: Ramos, Pepe, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo, Carvajal and Arbeloa.
Midfielders: Kroos, Khedira, James, Modric, Isco and Illarra.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Chicharito.

The team is now in Granada and staying at the AC Palacio de Santa Paula hotel. They were greeted by over 100 fans and took the time to pose with a young wheelchair-bound Madridista.

Okay, off to see what sort of costume and candy I can scrounge up. When I get home, I’ll post some of our woobinses in their Halloween costumes!

Gareth can come hang out with me. I’m in the house alone and handing out candy as Pepper Potts in the name of Tony Stark.
