All Eyes On Odegaard & More

Satellite (9)Wonder kid/Muppet Baby Martin Odegaard had his first training with the team today. (Video) Cristiano worked out indoors. Pepe and Lukita continue with their recovery.

Martin was paired with G-Money during a sprint race and predictably Gareth smoked him, but he also gave him a friendly arm around the shoulder and seemed to be offering some encouragement. Martin seemed to do well and appeared relaxed during his training.

Watishista mygypsyspirit found this great Paul Clement interview in the Telegraph where he gives a behind the scenes look at RM’s training. Well worth a read!

Satellite (12)Keylor and his wife Andrea were at the International Tourism Fair, Fitur, where he was named a tourism ambassador for Costa Rica.

Apparently, the Bernabeu is going to be named the Abu Dhabi Santiago Bernabeu. I know the sponsorship and naming deal is going to pay for the expansion of the stadium but…

And finally, you have to see this fantastic video that Real Madrid produced on 3 of our oldest fans. It gives you a lump in your throat.

Real Madrid for life: the story of three fans

More than 70 years as club members. Sergio Nieto, number 1, Manuel Fernández-Guisasola, number 56 and Luis Andaluz, number 64, have been bound to their beloved team their whole lives.

Three stories in one. The history of Real Madrid from the point of view of the club’s supporters. As children they discovered eleven players in white who made works of art on the pitch. First there was the Old Chamartín ground, then the New Chamartín Stadium, until they were finally able to watch them play and enjoy their triumphs in the Santiago Bernabéu.

Sergio, Manuel and Luis remember how, back in the 1940s, their fathers allowed them to enjoy a Sunday evening watching their Madrid team play. Shortly after they had a dream come true by becoming members of the club, while still only boys.

Going to watch football on Sundays was a ritual. Back then grounds did not have floodlights and the games were played at the beginning of the evening. As such, during the winter months fans would burn newspapers to avoid getting cold. And to finish off the day, once the game was over, they would go to the cinema are walk through Retiro Park.

All three fondly remember the figure of Santiago Bernabéu, who they chatted with on more than one occasion, especially Manuel who would dine with him each June along with his Real Madrid Supporters Club.

“It was great to speak with Bernabeu, he had phenomenal ideas,” says Manuel.

Some like Sergio, had the good fortune of wearing the white kit, with the Under-13s. With the amateur side he had morning sessions with the first team more than once, where he trained with the likes of Alfredo Di Stéfano and Ferenc Puskas. An opponent during the practice sessions and then a supporter in the stands, where he treated every Sunday like it was a final.

Thousands of great memories, among them the 11-1 defeat of Barcelona over 70 years ago as well as the recent Décima win, with Sergio Ramos playing the heroes role in the final. For that and much more, for them Real Madrid is “the best in the world”.

The video has English subtitles, which I’m so happy about. Isn’t that amazing? The mothership also included some great archival photos.

Such history! And how incredible it must have been to be a witness to all of that. To have seen Puskas, Di Stefano, Gento and all the golden era players in their prime! To have seen all 10 European Cups! Can you imagine?!  So cool. I’d love it if Real Madrid produced more videos like this. I found it so interesting.
