Ballers and Mean Tweets

25 Feb

B-R1F5FIAAAZd0dPersonally, I find this whole #therewillbehaters campaign by Adidas to be repugnant. I know it is all meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but isn’t there enough hate going on in and around football? Do we really need to celebrate it in commercials and campaigns and fuel the fire for the sake a damn dollar?

Having said this, take a look at what Adidas Australia is contributing to the celebration with their football and A-league players. Undoubtedly many of you will find this video funny, but I find it rather sad. Not only because a few times the players seem taken aback but because this will only encourage people to write more mean, hate-filled tweets in a quest to be chosen for the next commercial. The cycle will never be broken, will it?

Yeah, this seems rather cruel and obviously, really personal. Some are taking the joke well, some of them seem rather hurt (I can’t blame them). People are such dicks about players on Twitter and other social media.
