“The Espanyol game is going to be intense and difficult”, added the Whites’ manager.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke in the Ciudad Real Madrid press room on the eve of the La Liga clash with Espanyol (Sunday, 7pm CEST). The Italian coach looked ahead to the game: “We know it is an important match and we need to bounce back from the result on Wednesday. It is going to be an intense and difficult match, but the have been training well and we’re completely focused. We want to give it our all in the next two games to fight for the La Liga title until it’s no longer possible mathematically”.

“Every team is fighting for something at the end of the season. Espanyol are fighting to finish as high up the table as possible, so it will be an intense and difficult test. Our objective has to continue being making our supporters happy with the team’s level of commitment and showing them that we’ll give it our all for them. We’ll have that same attitude tomorrow. We’ll show that we’ve reacted well to the setback and that our level of professionalism will be as high as ever”.

His future
“There is a lot of interest in this topic, but we have two matches left and we have to give it our all in both. We still have a chance of winning La Liga so I’m not going to speak about my future just yet. Out of respect for all concerned, we’ll keep fighting. There’ll be time to discuss my future afterwards”.

The squad
“The squad has changed slightly compared with last season, but it is still very competitive and the level of performances from the players like Kroos and James has been excellent. Lucas Silva had a few problems settling in, but that’s to be expected. That has happened to true greats from the history of football, like Platini and Falçao”.

His relationship with the players
“We’ve been working together for two years and I have a very close relationship with the players. That continues to be the case and that won’t change in the future. I have so much faith in these players and respect them so highly that that will always be the case”.

Casillas or Keylor against Espanyol
“Keylor Navas will play one of the remaining two games. I’m not sure yet if that will be tomorrow or on the last matchday. I still haven’t decided on the line-up”.

“I have an extremely competitive squad.”

“I’m proud of this squad. We’ve given it our all and we’ll evaluate everything at the end of the season. We’re still fighting for La Liga and our goal is to win our two remaining matches. We were really close to reaching the final of the Champions League and we’re fighting for the La Liga title right down to the wire. We’ve had to deal with big injuries this season”.

“He has been performing well. He had good moments when the team was on a winning streak and struggled at other times when the team wasn’t enjoying a run of victories. He had some minor problems and he’s gotten used to playing with the team more. He adapted very well from the get go last season and was fantastic and this season he has played similarly to the team”.

Coentrão and Khedira
“They showed a very professional attitude because they had to deal with injuries. They’ve always been very diligent in training and have respected their coaches and team-mates”.

Message from Florentino Pérez
“He wished us well because we have to be completely tuned in for our last two matches. We are going to be fully focused”.

Champions League
“We had the possibility of reaching the final but we only played well during one half. We were unfortunate, but these things happen in football. You have to accept whatever happens on the pitch but on a personal level I’m disappointed because I thought the team deserved to play in another final”.

“The academy’s main aim is to improve the standard of the young players and in that aspect he has done a fantastic job because now the club have players with big futures ahead of them”.

“I’m not going to talk about signings now. Not everything that’s printed in the papers at the moment is true. There’ll be time to plan for next season later”.

The following players were called up for the match:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Keylor Navas and Pacheco.
Defenders: Varane, Pepe, Coentrão, Marcelo, Carvajal and Nacho.
Midfielders: Kroos, James, Bale, Lucas Silva, Isco and Illarra.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Chicharito and Jesé.
