2015 Women’s World Cup Is Almost Here

1 Jun

Kick-off is just a week away now on June 6. Are you excited? I am. Are you nervous? I’m nervous. I’m excited for the games and seeing which team and players can propel themselves towards glory and potentially infamy. As for my nerves, these have more to do with the FIFA contingent soon to be descending on my city for the opening match.

Canada voted for Prince Ali Bin al-Hussei in the last Friday’s election. We all know how that turned out in the end. While all of us associated with tournament will be professional carrying out our duties, I almost wish I had asked to be part of the protocol volunteer team this year. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the VIP lounge!

As for what happens with the fans and the general public once the tournament starts is anyone’s guess. I’m kinda thinking boos are going to reign much more loudly than cheers during the opening ceremony when any reference to FIFA is made. In a way, I hope there are banners or jeers of some sort here and in the other host cities. Then again, we are Canadians and being (overly)dramatic is not really our thing. Regardless of what happens, as long as everyone shows respects to the players and officials I’ll be content.

Moving on, I wanted to provide some broadcast information for the tournament. In terms of television and radio, these rights were sold all over the world so you should be able to find a channel or feed wherever you are. Here are the links for the Canadian, USA, and UK television schedules. If you know of the schedules in other countries, please share below.

As for streaming feeds, you should be able to find any game you want if you look hard enough. I tend to look at First Row Sports if I can’t find one via the official broadcasters. If you know of any other sites providing real-time coverage, please share.

I found this old-school scorecard which you can use to track all the matches.

Here’s to your favorite women’s team doing as well as you like, but just not at the expense of mine doing ever-so-slightly better!

I’m so excited! Being that I’m not officially Canadian, I would be shouting boos and hisses everytime FIFA was mentioned.
