Player Given Straight Red For Homophobic Language

11 Jun

prettyannamoon_2 red card homophobiaNorwegian football is cracking down on homophobic language and taking it seriously as Baerum SK’s Simen Juklerod recently found out.

Juklerod directed a gay slur at a Sandnes Ulf player(s) and was shown a straight red by referee Anders Gjermshus.  He used “gay” in a derogatory sense and their rules state that “aggrieved or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures”  will result in expulsion. If you watch the video, the player was pretty far from the ref so he must have yelled it out.  Head of referees Terje Hauge said

“We’ve told our referees that if they hear it clearly and there is no doubt about what’s been said then it should be punished with a red card”

I applaud Gjermshus for enforcing the rules and hope others follow suit. Let’s work on the racist language as well, please.

Baerum was tied 2-2 with Sandnes when Juklerod was sent off. They ended up losing the game 3-2.

Baerum is taking responsibility for their player and not making excuses, which is refreshing. An internal investigation is being conducted.

H/T to watishista mygypsyspirit for sending me this story.
