2015 WWC: The Shwapsies!

18 Jun

Well into the second week of the Women’s World Cup and I still haven’t located a sticker album locally. What’s up with that? Is there anyone out there who has procured one? I kinda feel they are a myth, a myth perpetuated to mess with my head. Uh huh.

In lieu of that sticker book, I’ve been following the Shwapsies account on Instagram which is so much better! This self-described “artist sticker collective” has been producing some really amazing electronic stickers for players at the WWC. Using original and unique illustrations. Say what?! The collective includes long-time football artists like Richard Swarbrick, Dave Flanagan, Notorius PIP, and Dave Merrell. So guaranteed, none of these stickers are suspect for various *cough* Photoshop *cough* reasons.

Just check out some of the artistic talent on display:

Love these! I see that you can get the Panini WWC on Amazon.com but not on Amazon.ca – that’s so weird that we’d have it but not the host country!

It is available on amazon.ca, but I can’t find the books locally which is frustrating me. WC stickers were everywhere last year. This summer, when we are hosting the WWC, none of the same places have them. It’s disappointing. It was also disappointing you can only buy the book only at the two local independent bookstores in the city. Not any of the chains. Something about FIFA rules is the reason I was given. Could you sense my eye rolls as I wrote that last sentence?
