I came across this incredible site called The Illustrated World Cup way back at the start of the Women’s World Cup. Then I forgot about it which is insane since it is simply amazing!
The site is run by illustrator Van Hong. She attended a few of the WWC games, and sketched each one while she was watching the action. In other words, she sat in the stands and captured the action live via a sketch pad and pencils. Talk about bringing artistry to the beautiful game. Just look at some of her work:
At last year’s World Cup, she drew the most incredible ball maps for some of the games. Here’s one she did for the WWC opening match between Canada and China.
I wonder if I get this as a print to hang in my den.
