Real Madrid Catch Up

9 Jul

Satellite (5)The Women’s World Cup and work have been keeping my attention away from RM, which to be honest, I’m kind thankful about because this pre-season is quite clusterfucky. But now it’s time to bite the bullet and catch up.

First off, Dani Carvajal signed a contract renewal which will see him at Real Madrid until 2020. A very important occasion indeed!

Satellite (6)So important that Dani wore…shorts. ::headdesk:: Kids today!

Carvajal: “I am proud to be staying here, a place I see as home, for another five years”

“I am very excited with this new project; we are going to do everything possible to make it a successful year”.

Following the renewal of his contract until 2020, Carvajal gave his first interview to and Realmadrid TV: “I am proud to be staying here, a place I see as home, for another five years”. The former academy player showed his optimism for the new season: “I am very excited. We are going to do everything possible to make it a successful year, and I am excited with our project for the 2015/16 season”.

Congratulations. The term “lifelong Madrid supporter” applies perfectly to you.
I have been here for practically ten years. I grew up here and they have taught me those values. I am proud to be staying at the club for another five years and I am grateful for the vote of confidence that the club has given me. I feel like I have a lot of support and I hope to be able to fully justify that.

Are you excited ahead of the new season?
Yes. I am very excited with the new project, with the new manager and the new coaching team. I have had the pleasure to meet them personally and it is quite exciting. We have the pre-season ahead to prepare for everything and we hope that it will be a great year with lots of titles.

Have you become the player you were expecting to become when you joined ‘La Fábrica’?
I have become the player I dreamed of becoming more than the player I expected to be. Looking back at my career it seems almost unthinkable that I would be here today extending my contract for another five seasons. When I joined in 2002, I always dreamed of stepping onto the Bernabéu with Real Madrid shirt and thanks to God and the club it has been possible.

You have always said that you did an Eramsus year in Germany. There you became one of the most outstanding defenders.
It was an opportunity. The club never broke their ties with me and we reached the best possible solution: leave in order to grow and improve. It was the best decision and the key turning point in my career in order to be here today.

How do you define yourself as a footballer?
I am a player who works a lot and gives their best every day. I am 100% competitive and very intensive in defence and attacking. I have qualities for modern football, which demands more offensive right backs, who are fast and can cover rival wingers, who are the quickest players. I aim to use my abilities to help the team.

You won La Décima in your first season. What was that moment like?
I have no words for it. When I was a child I also wanted Real Madrid to win the European Cup every season. To see myself among the starting 11 players in the final of the Champions League in the first season I played in the competition, is something that I still find hard to believe even now.

It seems that you have a special relationship with the European Cup. In 2002 when you arrived at the club, they had just won La Novena. Now as you are renewing your contract, it is time for La Undécima…
Let’s hope the tradition continues and we can do it. It would be magnificent news.

You have won three other titles with Real Madrid: the Club World Cup, the European Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. What memories do you have?
In only two seasons I have been able to win four titles thanks to my team mates. Being at Real Madrid, and with the help of my team mates, surely we will win more.

You are 23 years old and I imagine that you often take inspiration from your team mates.
In the two years that I have been here I have been lucky to be able to play alongside both young and more experienced players. The older players give us lots of advice and contribute a lot in order to help us improve and understand what it means to wear this shirt. We look to lots of team mates for inspiration.

Are you excited that you will continue to develop at your lifelong club?
It is a dream for me to have the club’s vote of confidence. Being here for another five years until 2020 is exciting and I want to get started to show that they made the right choice.

You have five promising seasons ahead of you…
Firstly, you have to think about the first season, which is the most important. I promise to give everything for this shirt, as I have done up until now.

What message would you give to the academy players at Real Madrid?
Not long ago I had a chance to do a session with various groups from ‘La Fábrica’ and I would repeat what I said to them: they should enjoy themselves and give everything in each training session and game. That is what I have done in order to always be able to come home and not be left with the feeling that I should have done more. That is the greatest attribute needed to reach the first team.

Lastly, what message would you send to the fans for next season?
I would tell them that they should be excited, just like all of the squad, the coaches and the club. We are going to do everything possible to make it a successful year. We should all aim in the same direction, and they should come and support us because they will see great football, a great spectacle, and surely lots of success.

Turns out that this season both Isco and Nacho will have new numbers. Isco will give up 23 and take on 22 (previously worn by Di Maria) while Nacho turns in 18 and will now wear 6 (formerly Sami Khedira’s number).

Danilo arrivesOur new defender, Danilo, arrived on Wednesday and was presented today at the Bernabeu.

“Welcome to Real Madrid, starting today you will begin to feel a special kind of passion”, stated Florentino Pérez.

Danilo was presented as a new Real Madrid player in the presidential box of the Santiago Bernabéu. Under a great weight of expectation and with numerous media outlets and supporters in attendance, Florentino Pérez welcomed him: “Now you are here at Real Madrid and I know you have dreamt about this moment. Real Madrid welcomes the arrival of a man who was sought after by a number of the biggest clubs in Europe, but he knew for sure that he wanted to join this team”.

“We all wish you the best so that you can display the quality and talent you possess. Walking out onto the pitch will undoubtedly be a moment you will never forget. Starting today you will begin to feel a special kind of passion. Enjoy it as best you can and never give up”.

Florentino Perez: “Enjoy this experience as much as you can and never give up.”

“These stands will push you on in every game. The supporters and members pour their hearts and souls into this club from every corner of the world and you are going to see why this institution is so legendary, but also why it is so demanding. That is part of what makes us winners. We are constantly working towards perfecting ourselves in search of excellence. This badge does not understand the meaning of discouragement and we have to give it our all every season. Being the greatest club in the world implies a great deal of responsibility”.

Danilo: “This is a dream from childhood come true”
An emotional Danilo took to the floor afterwards: “I would like to thank God for keeping me strong in order to play football, as well as all the people who made this day possible. Thanks to the fans for the love they’ve shown. This is definitely one of the happiest days of my life. All I can promise is that I will give it my all on the pitch in each match, that’s the only way I know how to compete. I am only capable of going out and looking for a win. Hala Madrid!”. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph of the new Real Madrid player alongside Florentino Pérez and various members of the Board of Directors.

Danilo: “It’s a dream to join the best club in the world”
by Alberto Navarro

“I’m excited and highly motivated to add even more silverware to the Real Madrid trophy cabinet”, he declared in the press room.

Danilo spoke to the media outlets in attendance at the Santiago Bernabéu’s press room. The first reinforcement of the 2015/16 season assessed his first few hours as a Whites’ player: “I’ve made a good choice and I’ve come to the best club in the world. It felt great to see the ten European Cups. That was very special. I’m excited and highly motivated to add even more silverware to the trophy cabinet”.

“My unveiling was a really special feeling. I was extremely emotional and have fulfilled a dream. I feel very highly valued and am really proud. I know how much of an effort the club made to acquire my services and I hope I can show what I’m capable of on a daily basis. I like to have high demands placed on me and to work hard. It’s comes easy to me to do what the manager asks in terms of my attacking and defending duties”.

Winning titles
“It was an odd year for Real Madrid because usually the team always win. Real Madrid are undoubtedly going to get back to winning ways because this is a club that lives to win titles. We will be starting the season with the mindset that we are going to win all the titles we compete for”.

Competition with Carvajal and Arbeloa
“It’s good for the club. Having three quality players fighting for the same position shows that the club wants to wins. All three of us are very competitive players and are all internationals. The real winners here are the club and the team”.

His injury
“I asked for time off during my time in Brazil in order recover from my ankle injury, and I’m fully mended now. My objectives with Real Madrid are to adapt to the playing style and the demands of the club as quickly as possible, as well as to the city and normal day-to-day life as that is going to help me play better”.

“I know how much of an effort the club made to acquire my services and I hope I can show what I’m capable of on a daily basis.”

“I don’t expect the Real Madrid supporters to be any different to the Porto fans. They’ll get behind us, from what I’ve always seen of them, and I hope we can do whatever’s needed in order to win and have them push us on”.

“They’re all world-class players. They’re the best players in their respective positions and I want to spend time with all of them. Playing with the best makes life easier. I can’t wait to get started”.

Benítez and his position
“I haven’t spoken with him about this at all. I’ve had very little contact with the manager, but I’m at his disposal to play wherever he sees fit. I’m here to help”.

“Not just me but every Brazilian full back looks up to Cafú as an example of a winner. He’s one of my idols. I don’t usually compare myself to anyone because I have my own characteristics. My mission is to be the future Danilo for Real Madrid. I work hard to be unique”.

The rivalry with Barcelona
“Nothing needs to be said about it. It’s one of the fiercest rivalries in the world. Neymar is a close friend of mine and I’d love to play in one”.

His experience with Porto
“It was a unique experience. It left an impression on me and I was very happy there. It’s a place I’ll never forget and will always hold in my heart. The Porto fans are spectacular. They always get behind the club and are warm and demanding people”.

High level of Spanish
“I learned quite a lot travelling during my playing days in Brazil and I was also really interested in participating whenever Spanish was being spoken. As well as that, when I was getting over my injury, I worked with the Porto technical staff, who were Spanish”.

On the Pitch

RM has prepared a little primer on Danilo’s career here.

And the boys are back in town. Hair horror and bad fashion as far as the eye can see. Sigh.

Medicals and a double training session are on tap for tomorrow. The first pre-season match kicks off in Melbourne on July 18th. (Full tour details at that link)

More to come! (Tomorrow. Now, time to sleep)
