The Brazilian players made it an extra special experience for the Whites supporters visiting the club museum.

It wasn’t the first time that they had been on the Bernabéu Tour, but Danilo and Casemiro enjoyed their journey along Real Madrid’s incredible history to the full. The pair, friends ever since their days together in Brazil’s age-group teams, enjoyed the encouragement and affection of the fans they met throughout their visit, and proved unable to conceal their admiration for the club they play for, as well as their sense of enthusiasm and responsibility at the task of adding to the Whites’ already extensive honours list. “The squad are full of desire and are working really hard. We all want to win as many trophies as possible,” they revealed.

The two players’ careers have always been interlinked. They met in Brazil’s youth sides, coincided at Porto last season and now share a dressing room at Real Madrid. It’s the perfect setting, a place both had dreamed of playing at, and they’re not hiding it. If it was Danilo who was a source of support for Casemiro last term, now it’s the midfielder’s turn to repay the favour: “Danilo helped me a lot at Porto, and now I want to help him. I brought him on the Tour so that he could learn more about the history of Real Madrid and so that he could get a feel for what this club’s all about and the sensations of winning major trophies”.

Casemiro: “In Danilo, I’m sure that Real Madrid have a top full-back for the next ten years.”

And he only had words of praise for the full-back: “He’s a player who has a clear idea of what he needs to do. Real Madrid have made a great signing, because he’s a top player and a top full-back. I’m sure that Real Madrid have a top full-back for the next ten years. He has already shown the quality he has at Porto. He’s a Brazilian international and he can become the best full-back in the world, because he has the footballing ability to do so.”

Danilo, whose interest in everything around him was clear to see, expressed his excitement at what he was seeing: “I’d been here as a player of another club and as a fan of Real Madrid. It’s a magnificent experience and I hope to put more silverware in these trophy cabinets. What has impressed me most has been how great Real Madrid’s history is, and just what a huge club it is.” He also spoke about his close friendship with Casemiro: “We got to know each other a while back in the Brazil age-group teams and we have a great connection. We get on really well both on and off the pitch. He’s a great friend and a really good player.”

Walking out at the legendary Santiago Bernabéu
This Tuesday, both will enjoy a unique, unrivalled feeling. Casemiro will once again take to the recently laid Santiago Bernabéu pitch after his spell at Porto, while Danilo will feature in his first ever home match as a Madrid man. “It’s spectacular, incredible. I remember the first time that I played at this stadium, against Betis. You see it and you just want to play here and give the fans something to shout about. The supporters have shown me a lot of affection and I want to repay that on the pitch by working hard day in, day out. I hope to be here for the rest of my playing days,” said the former.

Meanwhile, the defender is counting down the hours until the moment finally arrives: “I can’t wait to get out there and play. It’ll be one of the biggest feelings of excitement I’ll ever have in my life. I’m privileged to be able to realise that dream and I hope to enjoy it to the full because it’s something unique, which I’ll never forget. Watching matches on television, I’ve dreamed of being here many times. When I came to take the Tour for the first time, I also imagined playing here. God has given me that opportunity and I hope to enjoy the moment.”

Praise for Benítez
As they talked, the pair were in agreement on many points, including Rafa Benítez and their analysis of the season ahead. “The impressions have been really good. He’s a coach who demands a lot from you and looks to get the most out of his players. We’re all responding by working hard, because we know that we have to give it everything from the off so as to grow in confidence. The squad are full of desire and are working really hard. We all want to win as many trophies as possible,” explained Casemiro.

Danilo, who is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Roberto Carlos – a ‘role model’ for the Whites player – also highlighted the appetite for success possessed by the new Real Madrid boss: “He’s an ambitious coach and he’s come into the club with huge desire. He knows how to get his ideas across to the group and, on top of that, he’s a Madridista and is passionate about the club. I hope that all together we can win trophies, because Real Madrid always go out to win everything they play for. The fans can expect the maximum dedication from all the players”.

Everyone is back to business tomorrow as they prepare for Tuesday’s Santiago Bernabeu Trophy match vs. Galatasaray.
