4th Boot’s The Charm & More

14 Oct
It looks like a giant boot is coming down from heaven to crush him.

It looks like a giant boot is coming down from heaven to crush him. Please god, no!

Cris won his fourth Golden Shoe (3rd while at Madrid) – the only player to have ever achieved this. The award is given to the to top scorer across the European leagues.

He earned his fourth by scoring 48 goals last season (all of which you can watch here) and I’m pretty sure that it won’t be the last Golden Boot he wins. This boy is on fi-yaaaaaah!

His family came out to support him and Junior got a little, erm, handsy which cracked me up.

Here’s the presentation and interview in Spanish:

“We’re working well and we’re continuing to grow. I’m convinced that it’s going to be a good year”, he told Realmadrid TV and Realmadrid.com.

Cristiano Ronaldo spoke to Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV after receiving the Golden Shoe and going down in footballing history as the first player to claim the accolade for a fourth occasion. The Portuguese star said: “I’m very happy. It’s a special moment in my sporting life. I had never even considered winning it four times. Maybe once or twice, but never four. Being the first in history to do so makes me feel all the more proud”.

“I’d like to take this opportunity while speaking to Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV to thank my team-mates, Real Madrid, president Florentino Pérez and the fans, as it was a really good and really important year on an individual level. I’m at the biggest club in the world and for that reason we have to set our sights on winning every trophy possible”.

Good year
“This is going to be a really good year for us, both collectively and individually. We’re working well and we’re continuing to grow. I’m convinced that it’s going to be a good year”.

Words of thanks for the supporters
“I ask the fans to keep on getting behind the team just as they have in recent times. I also want to thank them for everything that they do for me, for chanting my name and for supporting the team, which is what’s most important. I can guarantee that I’ll give my all for this shirt and will try to win more team and individual trophies to give the fans lots to shout about”.

Benítez: “Cristiano’s four Golden Shoe awards demonstrate his perseverance and eagerness to succeed”

“He is a player who is still hungry, full of ambition and capable of improving on his figures even further”, the coach said about the Portuguese talisman.

Rafa Benítez spoke with Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV to assess Cristiano Ronaldo’s fourth Golden Shoe award. The first team coach was full of praise for the Real Madrid forward’s long list of attributes: “When a player wins one of these trophies it is a big achievement, but to win four at this level means that behind it all is a professional, a lot of hard work, perseverance, an eagerness to succeed and, as he has said so himself, other people helping out”.

“These numbers, figures and trophy wins are extremely difficult to achieve and they show that he is a very persistent player who possesses that inner drive to better himself which sets him apart. Whenever you have a player who scores so many goals, the team are going to win more games. He spoke clearly and thanked his team-mates. He’s aware of how big a role they play for him and all the success he is enjoying”.

“Cristiano is continuing to set new records. Obviously we’re talking about a player with a lot of talent and quality, and to surpass Raúl as the club’s all-time top goalscorer says it all. We’re talking about a player who is not only smashing records, but who is still hungry for more, full of ambition and capable of improving on his figures even further”.

Training

The first training session of the week took place on Monday and the good news was that Danilo rejoined the squad for the session. Arbeloa worked out indoors. Cristiano returned from international duty. Academy woobinses Mariano, Garci, Lazo, Javi Sánchez, Salto and Marcos Llorente also took part in training.

Because I totally suck, I missed Ruben Yanez’s birthday yesterday. Our Muppet Baby goalkeeper turned 22.

Today’s training saw the return of Toni, Nacho and The Baby. Denis & Isco worked out indoors. Academy players Mariano, Javi Sánchez, Carlos Abad, Lazo, Llorente, Lienhart and Dani joined the first team along with Arbeloa.

And a quick question about international break. When did Nacho get an azz like dat?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Sorry I’ve been so absent lately. It’s my busy time of year at work. I’m working overtime so that I can take off Friday to travel to the wedding of watishista correspondent Dr. P to the delightful watishisto AS. It’s going to be a fantastic occasion. And even as we speak, mygypsyspirit is on her way to Madrid so things will definitely be quiet again this weekend while we get our jet set on. But once we’re back, expect some reports of our hijinks.

Does Ruben Yanez have Iker written all over him or not? It’s insane.
