Well, Christmas is over and I guess it’s time for both me and the team to get back to work. Sigh. I was enjoying a break from all the drama. I bet they were too.
The team had two sessions today with lunch in between as they prepared for their final game of the year vs. Real Sociedad on Wednesday. Marcos Llorente, Borja Mayoral and Martin Odegaard of Castilla joined in with the first team.
Kroos: “We are Real Madrid and being successful is part of our DNA”
by Alberto Navarro
“We all want to do better, for ourselves and our fans”, he stated.
Toni Kroos is about to get back to training with Real Madrid following the Christmas break, which he enjoyed with his family outside of Spain. Before making his return to work, he spoke about his feelings concerning the season up until this point as well as what is still to come, beginning with Wednesday’s game against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu. “We all want to do better, for each other and for our fans”, stated the German midfielder.
Does the Christmas break feel long or short for a professional footballer?
For those of us playing in a foreign League it’s always nice to spend a few days with family and friends who we don’t get to see every day. For me, it’s important to be able to be with them over this period. But to be honest, football is always at the forefront of my mind.
In other words, you don’t completely switch off.
Your mind plays a hugely important role in terms of carrying out your job. Obviously you need to be able to disconnect somewhat, but football never escapes your mind.
On the subject of thoughts, what are your feelings on the season so far?
My answer is very clear: we want to do a lot better. We all want to do a lot better, for ourselves and for our fans. We’ve failed to be at our best at certain points of the season.
Are you optimistic?
I am. There’s some room for improvement and I’m certain we’ll get better. We work our socks off on a daily basis and the pay off for that hard work will end up being reflected in the results. I’m positive that we’ll find that consistency that is not only demanded of us by our fans, but that we too yearn for.
2015 is almost over and a lot of people have already made assessments about Real Madrid’s season…
We’re not even at the half-way point in the domestic championship and we performed very well in the Champions League group stage to reach the round of 16. It’s too early to be making evaluations. We are Real Madrid and being successful is part of our DNA.
Back to work tomorrow with a double training session…
I have no doubt that everyone will come back eager to get going again. We’re going to fight for everything and will go out to win all our matches.
And happy belated birthday to Denis who turned 25 yesterday.
