The team is ready roar and rarin’ to go for tomorrow’s derby.
Birthday boy Pepe joined the group along with Pip Borja Mayoral. Marcelo & Arbie stayed indoors. Gareth continued working on his recovery.
And Karim sent some birthday wishes Jey M’s way.
Am I the only one worried about what sort of trouble these two could get into together?
And Pepe shared this horrifying birthday greeting from Umbro:
What do you think of that Cristiano and Junior?
Pretty much what my face looked like when I saw it too!

“The derby will be difficult and the important thing is to know what we have to do”, added the Real Madrid coach.
Zinedine Zidane spoke to the media the day before the derby against Atlético (Saturday 4pm CET). The Madrid coach analysed the game and sent a message to the Santiago Bernabéu: “I ask that the Real Madrid fans start strongly like the players, to get behind the team as they always do. They have to always be fully behind the team. Maybe tomorrow even more so, with it being a derby and derbies are always special”.
“What worries me is that we’re in good shape tomorrow. We’ve trained well this week and we’re ready to have a good game. It’s a derby and it’s important for both teams. We have to be at our best as always. We’re going to continue with our style of play. It’s going to be a difficult games, that’s clear”.
“We know that Atlético are a team that defends well, but not only that. They’re a complete team with big players. In Málaga we made some mistakes on the second ball that we have analysed it. Every game has something and tomorrow will be a different game. We have prepared well and this afternoon and also tomorrow we still have things to say to the players. We’re going to play with our strategy, we have to think about what we want to do. The opposition is strong, but we have to go out and do what we know”.
“Atlético have their strengths and Real Madrid too. What I want to see is a good game of football and I’m sure we’ll have that. Atlético are at team that work well and they have a hard working team. They’re very competitive”.
“He had a problem with his calf and we have to be careful with that. That’s why he hasn’t trained today and he will not be with us. Pepe trained with us, Bale trained apart and the rest are ok. We could do what we did with Carvajal in place of Marcelo, but we could also do something else”.
“It’s a special game, it’s a derby. I hear a lot, people doubting my abilities as a coach. Everyone can think freely. I concentrate on my work. We’re playing against a great team that’s got a great coach. He’s very important for his team. They’re very competitive and I have to find the key to win”.
The fight for La Liga
“The players are very professional, they know what they’ve got to do. Sometime things in the game don’t go as you planned but I’m convinced about their professionality. Here we go from one extreme to another. I’m going to focus with my players on what we have to do, to give our all. It’s not possible to play well for 90 minutes. There’s a bit of everything in a game. The most important is to know what we have to do”.
“The Derby is always a special game.”
“Whatever happens, we won’t be saying goodbye to La Liga. We’re not going to give up until the end because there are points to play for. I’m honest. If we lose points it’s always going to be more complicated. But whatever happens we have more games, we’ve got the Champions League all to concentrate on. Our season doesn’t end tomorrow”.
“He’s perfect, like everyone. Other players have played but he’s ready and important for us. I’m really happy with what he’s doing. I have to take decisions and we will see if he plays. We are a big group and I have to make decisions”.
“He’s a very important player for the team. He no longer has the problems he had in the last game. He’s capable of doing anything. More than his goals, the most important thing is the work he does with his teammates. He links up well, he’s motivated and he plays well with the others”.
“I’m happy with the work he’s doing. If you look at his goals, it’ clear he has to work. He’s the first person who knows that. But I’m happy with the work that he does with the ball and in defense”.
“It’s very hard for me to answer. One day they’re asking about James, another day Danilo… I have to make decisions. James is doing his best. I see them training and they give their all. In the games sometimes things go well for you, other times they don’t. They important thing is now, that’s what’s important. I’m really proud and happy with the attitude of all the players”.
“We’re going to play with our strategy, as always. The picture is clear. In the midfield we have quality, both physical and technical. Tomorrow you will see how we set up in the middle”.
“He’s be in the squad. He’s looking good. He’s playing with Castilla and the under 19s. He trains most weeks with us and he’s ready”.
“I don’t organise the fixtures. The important thing is to prepare well for the game. Every week it’s someone’s turn to prepare with not a lot of time to rest”.
The following players were called up for the match:
Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas, Casilla and Yáñez.
