First Woman Ever Named FIFA Secretary General

Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura - new FIFA Secretary General

I meant to post this shortly after it was announced as this is actually a huge step forward.

On 13 May, FIFA named Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura as Secretary General.

She is a Senegalese diplomat with an impressive resume, beginning her work with the United Nations in 1995. She’s a humanitarian powerhouse having lead efforts in both Chad and Nigeria.

I like the push for diversity within FIFA and having a woman as Secretary General is absolutely an important step in the right direction.

Pending an eligibility check, she will take over in mid-June. Her first big test is going to be dealing with the gigantic mess of Qatar and their awful migrant worker conditions. Let’s all hope FIFA is going to change and get things done the right way.

You can find out more about Fatma and her appointment here.

That’s awesome news, though I don’t envy her the job.
