I was very much rooting for little Venezuela. What a run they had! Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
18 June: Argentina 4 – 1 Venezuela
Man of the Match:
I’m not always too fond of placing photos of Messi on the blog, but I like this photo. Also, the eye tattoo on his bicep totally creeps me out. It took only 8 minutes for Higuain to score his first goal of the tournament. Pipita made it 2 in the 28th minute by rounding two defenders. In the 43rd, Venezuela had a chance to make it interesting when they were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, Seija missed the penalty. It wasn’t a good take, as he put it right into Romero’s hands. The first half ended with Argentina up 2-0. Messi scored in the 60th minute to make things very VERY difficult for Venezuela. Rondon scored for Venezuela in the 70th minute. For a minute (no, literally one minute) I thought maybe Venezuela would make a game of it. But Eric Lamela added a 4th for Argentina in the 71st minute. Argentina moved on to the semi-finals to face USA.
