Copa America: Quarterfinals – Mexico v Chile

22 Jun

What on EARTH happened to Mexico?! Eduardo Vargas, that’s what!

18 June: Mexico 0 – 7 Chile

Man of the Match: Eduardo Vargas (Chile)

The match started the way I thought it would. Both teams seemed up for it though Chile were looking better. But with the first goal in the 15th minute by Puch started Mexico’s no good, awful, terrible day. Chile had a goal disallowed in the 38th minute for offside. Vargas made it 2-0 just before the end of the first half, however. Amazing that the second half would just fall apart completely for Mexico. Sanchez scored Chile’s 3rd in the 52nd minute. Vargas made it 4-0 just two minutes after that and got his hat tricks in the 58th minute. In the 76th minute Vargas put another past Ochoa for his fourth goal that put Chile up 6-0. Puch scored his second in the 89th minute to really end the match. The ref didn’t even add stoppage time. Chile now face Colombia in the semi-finals.
